I used to sew tons in my younger days and then just stopped. Clothing was so inexpensive to buy and my time was limited. I have been thinking about getting into quilting. My great aunt Tildy made me a beautiful quilt when I was young, I still have it. I want to make some for my great nieces and nephew now! It is a great heritage to pass down from generation to generation plus it keeps you warm!

We used this exact same block to do an album quilt for a retiring leader. We used a beige center with different plaids on the corners and everyone signed their names in the center. I used the triangles that were cut off and made a small quilt with them. They can also be a great border!!

I made a very similar quilt for my wedding guest book. The centers were cream, where everyone signed, and the corners were our wedding colors. I put the cut off corners in my crumbs bin, and still come across one every now and again.

Every time you do corners like that, like on flying geese and stuff, I hope that you will also stitch 1/2" away from the first stitching line. That way you'd get a boatload of tiny half-square-triangles that you could use as a border, or a decoration on the backing, or just toss in a scraps bin for another project... and there would be absolutely no waste! :D

Not bought layer cakes, mini charms, or cut fabric. I have lots of odd shaped pieces left over from many projects made over the years and would like to combine them into a “ memory” quilt Thank you!!❤❤

I think Jordan Fabrics spends all their time & resources to make these free videos with the hopes that watchers will buy the fabrics (& patterns when applicable) from their online store. But I’ll bet there are “scraps” tutorials available on other RU-vid channels, where perhaps they don’t have anything to sell and just want people to watch their videos (so they can earn advertising revenue).

I have a shoulder issue and can't use a rotary cutter and ruler long enough to cut the pieces for a quilt. I also collect scrap fabrics from our local quilt club. Back about 2014 I bought a Big Shot Pro machine and now I use dies from Blue Wren of A1 Craft and Quilting. They have the die to cut the pieces for this quilt. It is really fast to stack up six layers of scrap fabric and run it through the machine. The die specific for this quilt pattern has the smaller triangle and the larger sideways hexagon on it so you don't have to draw lines on squares to make triangles. It also saves fabric to use that technique instead of cutting off the side of the square to make the triangle. You make triangles first then just sew them on the larger piece.
