In this video I introduce DRICORE Insul-Armor, the lightest, easiest to install DIY basement subfloor product I've ever tried. Insul-Armor insulates your basement floor while also acting as a vapor barrier, preventing warm indoor air from condensing against the cold concrete floor. Raised circular sections on the underside also stop small amounts of liquid water from damaging your finished floor. Even though DRICORE Insul-Armor is only made of foam, it's strong enough to withstand the weight of a truck driving over it without damage, as you'll see in this video.

I'm installing this subfloor right now and you ABSOLUTELY need a mallet and a tap block of some sort, they do not come together by just pushing them. You also need to tape the seems or by the time you get to the other end of the room, all the tapping will break it apart at the start of the room. It does produce a very warm feeling floor though and it is very strong, you can easily walk on it without denting it.

I like that this type of flooring. It seems dricore keeps innovating. I wonder what improvements they will have next. If like to this type of panel with groves in for a radiant in floor heating. One panel and then engineering hardwood over top. What do you recommend in order to do this in a basement?

How do you think this underlayment would hold up in a homegym environment?

The installation steps advise you to do the following: 1) Place 3 1/2" strips underneath framing to keep it off the concrete 2) Leave a 1" gap (to alllow for drywall + expansion) and start your flooring. Assuming 5/8" drywall, this means there will be an intentional vapor barrier gap below the drywall. Can anyone advise why this gap would be justified?

Can I install Insul-Armor over pressure treated sleepers? Floor is too out of level to use it directly on the concrete.

I think I can offer some insight into your question! YOu'll have to remove the tile flooring (or maybe not depending how well the tile is laid) but it's likely best to get the flooring off back to concrete....then lay down this flooring BUT if your thinking your going to tile on this then NO....Don't use this! You'll have to use a product that has the plywood on it rather than use this. Dri-Core makes the other panel that has the Strandboard Plywood on it! If your thinking you are going to lay Engineered Wood Floors, Laminate, Vinyl Floating floors then USE THIS Product!

A flooring company did my whole basement with vinyl plank and some sort of leveling compound. My problem is efflorescence has now cracked through the leveling compound and warped the vinyl plank. Should they have done a sub floor or moisture barrier underneath before using leveling compound?

Has anyone used this stuff? Does it make noise after a while when you walk in it? I would imagine the foam edges must run in each other eventually?

Hi! In tests I did before making this video, I didn't hear any sound given off my movement of the panels. The interlocked edges fit quite well, so there's no chance for movement and noise that I detected. You could buy a few and try them out, but I think you'll be surprised at how dense these panels are. Good question. I want to build non-load bearing walls on top of this just like they recommend for the other 2 versions of DriCore products.

Absolutely! You must leave a gap between the subfloor and the wall all around the perimeter

There will be better products coming out soon panels with air holes to keep everything dry.

It doesn't seem like this would offer much cushioning if it is so dense and rigid. We are looking for more permanent flooring in our basement as we currently have 5/8" foam squares, but after 8 years they have started sticking up in areas from being stretched out. Seems like there isn't a lot out there that offers as much cushion and comfort.

I'm getting a '404 not found' message when I look for 'Bailey Line Road'. I'm suspicious of this video being an astro-turfed ad from the company. The guy has all the #'s at his fingertips and, frankly, is smoother than I expect from a 'real' DIY type. Just doesn't feel right.
