I have always avoided painting portrait cause I was never confident to sketch a human face. But watching this tutorial gave me the confidence to try this out. Went to Pinterest for some inspiration and my painting turned out great. I’m so proud of myself and I’m super grateful to you for giving us a totally different perspective on painting portraits

Look at Chad Jacobs' studies and videos of John Singer Sargent portraits. He talks well about shapes and building the likeness and face with only shapes and basic values. Using a pencil, just notch out the chin, bottom of the nose, brow line, and hairline. Then from that, use the envelope method of drawing to get down the basic shape of the face. U may need to measure the width of the face, personally, I don't have to, but you may want to. Anyways, I won't explain further unless you want me to, but I seriously suggest Chad Jacobs.

Super helpful tutorial, you really helped me "shift" my eyes and start looking at the shapes. Thanks! Definitely checking out your course.

That was... fast 😅 But very nice quick routine for training portrait! And indeed, the result I got is not THAT bad! (I have to admit I did push the pause button several times 😅)

This clicked with me theoretically - just hope i can lean into the technique in a relaxed fashion...

A big part of that relaxation is : 1 - Simple shaped references 2 - Black & white only 😁

Wow! The Stan Miller (?) technique of blue for dark, red for mid tones and yellow for light sounds fun. Love your videos. Thanks.

Great stuff. As Stan Miller says in his basic approach, if you get the values right it doesn't matter what colors you use. Also, keep in mind, value does the work, color gets all the credit.

All the world has watched the suffering and deaths of people in Ukraine and it reminded me of the last two years of Covid. I naturally thought of appealing first to the art community who are strong in their creative ability to manifest things, hoping you will understand the principle and power of what I am suggesting and use you world platforms to get this message out. I guess being a subscriber to many of you I am hoping that you feel as I do and whatever creative form you wish to use , be it drawing painting, knitting or crochet, meditation or prayer stand together every day in visualising a shield of protection and love for those in Ukraine. Thank you Linda x
