great vid, very informative thans for making.

You must hook the anchovy through the lower lip and out the nose. This is way we do it on the charter boats.
@FishingSanFrancisco
@FishingSanFrancisco 3 года назад
Are they able to get oxygen doing both lips? Does that have any effect on how long they live?
@andrewvillanueva4222
@andrewvillanueva4222 3 года назад
@@FishingSanFrancisco that is how all the charter boats teach to keep the baits swimming. Just my opinion bro
@joseduran7368
@joseduran7368 2 года назад
@@andrewvillanueva4222 bruh that's not the only way. You can hook from inside the mouth and out the nose so it can still open its mouth and breathe unlike what you recommended. So don't say he must do it that way
@Meetoniceyou
@Meetoniceyou 3 года назад
Yk if they’re under sized and you pull them up with a net it cuts their tail fin which doesn’t grow back and makes it that much harder for them to survive?

let me guess, the soap bubbles are in the bait tank to keep the gulls from seeing the bait in there and going in after it?
@FishingSanFrancisco
@FishingSanFrancisco 3 года назад
Solid guess but The bubbles are from the aerator mixing with sardine slime. Not intentional but it does make it harder to catch um

Keep up the great content. Not sure if this helps, but next time you fish live bait, bring an extra bucket and dip net. If you change the water every half hour or hour your chovies will survive longer and remain spunky. Too much ammonia builds in the water and becomes toxic for them. Cheers
@FishingSanFrancisco
@FishingSanFrancisco 5 лет назад
It does help! I learned pretty quick only having one bucket doesn't allow you to get new water. I brought a second one with this week and was able to keep them alive a few hours longer. It also helped cut down on all the darn foam! Thanks for watching!
@chimyshark
@chimyshark 3 года назад
it's not ammonia, pretty sure it's the lack of oxygen. oxygen depletion occurs within minutes, but ammonia build-up takes days.
@kauaimurph
@kauaimurph 5 лет назад
Nice video. FYI. Halibut will have better chance of survival after release if you don't grab them with your hands. Also, I'd recommend lowering them back into the water with net instead of tossing back.

First things first. Never hook a fuckin anchovie with its mouth open. You’re drowning it. And why would you hook it upside down?
@livetofish5601

Love your stuff bro I just started watching you love that beat receiver too but just a little tip for everybody out there after a few trips to that receiver we realized getting one scoop instead of two is better you’ll still have enough bait to fish with all day but they’ll be livelier and more will stay alive we used to run to scoops and a 15 gallon ice chest and had for bubble laters going with anti-nitrate juiceSo in this case a little goes a long way

Try top of the eyes or Gil hook them they stay alive a lot longer on the hook if ur gonna use a small perch or a herring belly hook them that will keep them alive for a very long time 2 and halibut love the movement and change the water in the bucket more often

When you put a live bait on the hook. Start the hook under the lower lip and through the nose keeping the mouth shut.

I use the same as what I right with berkleygulp. 3/0 baitholder j offset hook. I'm not sure this is correct. I would probably recommend something smaller. I'm just lazy and like to use one type of rig for a few things
@bradleyscott4048

You are not fishing the live bait the right way you have to use a Carolina rig
@FishingSanFrancisco
@FishingSanFrancisco 4 года назад
I don't like using Carolina rigs due to the crabs. They seem to be able to get the anchovies pretty easy when u don't force them off the ground like the high/low. A lot of guys use a Carolina rig with a float attached for the same effect.

You should be careful netting undersized fish. Their fins tear in the net and they get fin rot and die.
