Around 12:25 when you check for trademark rights and see no infringement , do you ever copyright phrases in addition to moving ahead to creating designs? Hope that made sense
Great question! I have in the past but it didn’t pay off. It was about $500 per trademark when I did it and nothing really came from it. The good thing is if you don’t formally trademark/copyright a design, but someone still comes along and copies your design, if it’s too close of a copycat you can report it to the POD marketplace and they will remove it as a copycat design (all without you having to pay to formally protect the design).
Can I do this with just a basic android phone? I wish you could provide a step by step tutorial using a basic android phone making design and how to sell it
I have a question: the two niches you showed, after school teacher and anatomy teacher, they both had an A but such low search volume (18 and 7 per month), would they even be worth the hassle? If only one of them most likely would buy a shirt, the effort is way too high for the presumed outcome.
Excellent question! Going into the big niches with thousands of monthly sales is great but near impossible to rank as a new listing. A couple years ago that was the way to do it, but now they are over saturated and have their “permanent” first page listings. If however you go into these smaller niches, you can rank of the first page and get a couple sales per month from each. Let’s just say you get 5 sales per month from each niche, that’s about $20 profit per month on each POD marketplace you upload to (I’d recommend the top 3 sites) so about $60 per month profit. Now if you go into 100 of those niches (not very hard to do) that could be $6000 per month profit. I hope that makes sense and helps explain how these small niches are much easier to get sales in and they add up very quickly 👍
@@GregGottfried thanks a lot for the clear answer. Makes decision processes easier. I am currently waiting for my first tier-up out of tier 10 on MBA and am gonna start on Etsy soon. Tried spreadshirt (Germany, as I live there) and Threadless before, which are both a waste of time. So concentrating on MBA and Etsy now. It’s always good to learn from pros. So thank you.
I have a simple question. You have like 650000 followers. Let's say just 50000 saw this (awesome) video. And let's say only 5000 of them try this strategy Tomorrow we will have like 5k or more tshirts uploaded, all similar if not ideantical. At this point the A for competition becomes a Z, and probabiy none of the listing will see a sell. Am I wrong?
Good question! The short answer is only a handful of people end up putting it to use. The longer answer is something like 99.9% of people who watch will have a reason why they can’t do it, so they push it off until ‘the time is right’ which unfortunately never happens. That’s kind of the case for all online businesses not just print on demand. I do typically get to chat with those who put it to use in the comments, and they come back to say it worked and to say thank you (but it’s definitely only a very select few that put things into action). I hope that helps shed some light on this 👍
Great info in here, even for those of us who are habitually watching vids to build our own education. Creators like this are great to sub to, as you'll get INFORMATION and not just REGURGITATION. 🤘🏻
Hey Jonny I don’t see them sorry they get buried so quickly. You don’t need a corporation to sign up. You can just use your first and last name without having a business entity setup at all. As for the seller account, it’s a separate account entirely on Amazon so you’d have to make another one with Amazon Merch on Demand. I hope that’s the answer you’re looking for 👍
Gregg, I just want to come on here to say thank you for all your incredible contributions to my POD business. I started POD with your help and I finally make a sale yesterday and I owe it to you. I really appreciate all the information you share on your channel to help those of us that looking for a side hustle. I am waiting to hear back from Amazon hopefully they will accept me into their Merch program so I can have the opportunity to make more money. You’re truly amazing and truly care about us . May God continue to bless you.
That's amazing to hear, thank you! It's people like yourself that put the information to use, and come back to share their success, that makes this all worth it for me.. I feel like I get excited for you just reading this because I know the feeling of the 'ah ha' moment when it starts working! As always, if you run into any questions just let me know!
This is exactly what I needed! The breakdown of creating best-selling T-shirt designs without overcomplicating the process is perfect. Thanks for showing that simplicity can still lead to success!
Last week, out of nowhere, I came across a video about print-on-demand and how it works. It grabbed my attention, and I decided to start my own business! I’ve watched some of your videos, and they are so easy to understand! I’m super excited to dive into this new world and see how far I can go. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
This is amazing Greg as always. A quick question, will this kind of design not land me in trouble with sites like Tee Public when they see the designs are the same only change of one word like from culinary teacher to cello teacher with same font, design and even to some extend the phrases? Will they not consider it as being uncreative?
Hi Greg, I have an Etsy question.. I am planning to open an apparel store for Dog lovers wherein I will be putting designs for Top 19 Top dog breeds in U.S.A and the 20th section would be dedicated to other dog breeds.. Now my question is that Should I only put 1 product that is t-shirts on my store OR Should I rather have 2-3 products (t-shirts, mugs, blankets) under each dog breed section to give the customer more buying options and thereby also increase my Average Order Value? I would appreciate your response, thanks!
What happens if I pick a phrase that is not trademarked and start using it on apparel and selling and then at some time in the future someone else does the same search and finds that that phrase is not trademarked and then they trademark it without me knowing will my designs be in violation of trademark?
Great question. Technically, yes they would own the right to it, but you have already been using it before they trademarked it so they don't have any rights to your profits. This is a very rare occurrence because it's expensive to trademark a phrase (I paid about $500 last time). It's kind of just a nuance to this business model, but I wouldn't overthink it. As a side note, if you leave all your phrases in the Merch Informer trademark alerts list, they will auto check them for new trademarks every 24 hours (so you'll be able to see if any of yours are now trademarked). I hope that makes sense and is helpful!
Yes absolutely. You get to choose the public name that everyone sees, and also your real name or business name stays private and is only for your payments 👍
Hi Greg I mean with that to use my artistname for example" artist 2024 " and turn that into t -shirt to sell. designs and upload unto t-shirts to sell.
