You have many options with that motor ! Up here we use them for saw mills but your tree population hasn’t been around since the dinosaurs! Lol. Another thing is that motor is good for a trash pump and lawnmower and golf cart and side by side ( homemade ) and perhaps a small car 🚗 ! And less I forget an air compressor and if it were water cooled it’s great for a Hot Shot unit ! Just to name a few things ! 👍
You're pretty knowledgeable with this apu...I have a Tripac to keep me cool during summertime ,it has saved me a lot of engine hours on the big engine and money for diesel.
I’ve got a unit very similar to the one you’re working on. I don’t have the Driver Control Panel and I’m wondering if you know if there’s any value in keeping the APU control module on the unit. I want to use the engine on a garden tractor and I don’t need any fancy electronics to cause problems but if it’s a good idea I’d keep it as long as it’s not going to cost a lot to make it work. You spoke of making 3 or 5 volts to trigger the module. It appears that there are two control wires from the module and a power and a ground, all in one 4-conductor cable. The white and green are the ones that specify the low voltage. Any help in figuring out how to set this up would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't even consider it. I mean, it's neat, as it kinda makes it a self-sustaining system while the driver is asleep; but it's not something you'll need. It just adds complexity to something that is so simple - I mean, I rigged it with some buttons. You could get fancy and get a glow plug timer to eliminate the glow plug button and add some electronic gauges. Or, install manual gauges if you prefer.
@@BrandonsGarage Thank you for your help. I think I’ll rig it up as you suggested because I agree…simpler is better. I test-ran it much like you have in the video but just using a key switch, and it seems to work just fine. I’ll pull the engine out and figure out how to fit it in the Wheel Horse and spin up an output plate/shaft to replace the pulley and see what happens. It should be a good replacement for the Onan that I can’t seem to get parts for.
To the start button. It gives additional voltage to pull the fuel solenoid open, its only needed for a second at startup. So you'll have a start button, with a wire going to the starter solenoid AND to the pull terminal on the fuel solenoid. The on-off switch simply gives power to the 'hold' terminal of the solenoid to hold it open once the pull has been activated. Off switch then disconnects, thus cutting power to the hold and shutting off fuel to the engine.
Same here! It was on a Boeing B-29 Superfortress, which then caught fire and burned the aircraft to the ground; witch is now the bottom of a small lake. Sad day for that aircraft. Hopefully history wont repeat itself with this APU.
@@BrandonsGarage The parts cut off at 23:44 and 24:21. I would actually take all of the frame and weld it back together. My entire frame is nearly gone from rust.
