Visible Geology is a FREE programme that allows you to create 3D geological block models of the Earth's Crust. This is an absolute must for students, teachers and professionals who want to explore the way rock layers are affected by different geological events over time, and how that will appear on a 2D topography.
This is video 2 where Rachel Murtagh shows how you can annotate your geological model to show dips and strikes and then easily create a stereogram showing the orientations of structural features.

This is late to the party, but appreciated. 🙂 I was with you for the first couple of minutes, but Rachel started losing me when talking about rake. The term means nothing to me; an interested and senior amateur. The problem is that, assuming they're called stereograms, I see these often red and white segmented circles in earthquake reports (USGS earthquake maps, and the Icelandic volcanic maps in late 2023 and early 2024, tor example), and I'm not sure what the four segments shown in the circles mean. More thought is definitely needed, but more information would help that thought process tremendously. This video has helped a little, but there seems to be no easily accessible reference which can tell a novice which aspects of a strike/slip or transform fault (or presumably a fault movement?) are being depicted. Maybe another video, back-pedalling a little, which tells us novices more simply about the basic things which are being shown in those stereograms. At the very least, we need to know _where to search_ for the teaching information. Thanks.

@RWBHere sorry for the delay in response. I've got a set of 3 short-ish video I did a little bit ago that I think could help. I'll try and get them published on Seequent's RU-vid channel (Visible Geology playlist) in the next couple of days. I don't cover rake in that 3 part series so might have to do a 4th 🤭 ... but people can let me know if that's desired
