Clear, concise and to the point. I have one minor correction regarding the info you provided about magnetizing ferrous tools, specifically where you mentioned that doing this method will leave you with a "permanent" magnetic tool which is not true and in need of correction. Using the magnetizing method provided in the video is the same concept that pre-made magnetizers employ by creating a magnetic field that will align any ferrous tool drawn through said field and after doing this method for years myself, I can safely say that the magnetic property of your tool will slowly degrade over time or more rapidly by dropping your tool on a hard surface on its end, causing the magnetic field to shift out of alignment. Overall, with most standard sized hand tools that don't use a hammer action you can expect about a 3 month period, if I'm being generous, out of your newly magnetized tool before it will need another session with the magnets (assuming your tools manage to avoid interacting with true permanent magnets like rare-earth magnets or accidental tool drops which can negatively affect the stability of a tools newly magnetic characteristics. Just keep a stack of strong permanent magnets or a pocket magnetizer on your desk to use as-needed and you shouldn't have any issues) Fuckin' magnets right?
@TrollFaceTheMan

Thank you and I appreciate the extra information. You are correct I didn't mean the permenant magnet in the sense of manufactured magnet like Ceramic Ferrite or Neodymium. But in personal experience I have had some of these tools stay magnetized years after doing this. It make sense what you are saying though that banging around and such can disrupt that. I never though of that before and apparently never had cuased it myself. Again thanks for the comment and info :)

@@TrollFaceTheMan Striking a ferrous bar on its edge with a hammer was one of the first ways we managed to magnetize objects, outside of naturally occurring Lodestones which dated back to Ancient china. This was well before we figured out how exactly HOW it worked, craftsmen just knew that it did. I didn't mean to come off as overly critical though, I did thoroughly enjoy your video. My main issue I guess was probably just word choice as "permanent magnet" is an actual term we use to differentiate an object from a temporary magnet which loses its magnetic properties over time. As for long term magnetization of tools, I'm kind of wondering which tools held their field strength the longest - certain tool steels will have slightly magnetic properties due to the manufacturing process and particular alloy blend.

@@nullfi7148 you are fine, I took no offense to your comment and genuinely appreciate the input. I heard that you can magnetize stuff to by sticking it while lining up with the magnetic piles of the earth. Still been meaning to try that. Sounds like it is similar to what you are talking about?
@nullfi7148
@nullfi7148 Год назад
@@TrollFaceTheMan I haven't heard of that method, sounds interesting and bit more involved than the method I brought up lol. The physics of why striking an iron bar with a verticle blow is simply that Impact creates Energy + sound that resonates down the length of the bar, this act aligns all of the electrons in your iron bar in a nice and neat order, making it conducive to producing an electric field. Easy way to understand how the striking blow creates magnetism is just to remember that electrons don't flow through wires, they flow around them meaning that those loose electrons are on the surface of the object so object shape and angle of attack become the most important factors. When you hit an iron bar on the thin side, facing down you are literally using concussive force to push the electrons all in one direction, downward from tip to tail of the bar. Hope that makes sense? If you come across the name of that technique you mentioned then let me know please, I'd like to check it out! Good luck on future vids :)

@dedskin1
@dedskin1 9 дней назад
Rotate the screw driver to demagnetize it while you are bringing it to the magnet , you need to understand what is going on , while you are pulling magnet across , it aligns the atoms , atoms are magnets , if you align them , you get a bigger magnet , align them all you get very strong magnet , stop their vibration by cooling all of their energy will go towards magnetism , losses will be minimal , super magnet . Now what do we do to demagnetize it , shift the atoms around , you dont need a magnet for that . Heat moves atoms , so heat it up make the atoms move , then kick it and cool it , demagnetized totally . You can not demagnetize with a magnet , but it will help if you randomly apply it , you can turn the screwdriver that will screw up the atoms making it less magnetic . Or if you dont have a magnet , use a coil of wire , run DC current trough it , makes a magnet , do it that way , demagnetize , hit it with high frequency AC , basically the same thing done but automatic , no need for handy work . Now Microwave ovens have big wires , use it cut off the metal , use the wires , get some kind of resistor so you dont blow a fuse a switch a rectifier , bum electromagnet , remove the rectifier , demagnetizer . That is how they demagnetize labels in the shop . They have a surface with coil of wire with AC current in it , pull the stuff across it demagnetized . Now i dont know electricity , but what i do know is how universe works . I did not try this , but in my head it works . Let me know if it works for you . Of course safety first .If you dont know what you are doing , dont mess with HV mains .

When you magnetize an carbon object you are aligning/disalinging the molecules in the carbon chain structure. Another way you can do this is: Take a piece of wire #10 or #12. Wrap it around the object you want to magnetize. The tighter the windings the more magnitizem. Touch each end of the wire to the positive and negative posts on a car battery. Hold there for 2-3 seconds Repeat if necessary..Bam! Magnetism! To demagnetize, strike the object on a hard metal surface (vise, metal plate). Dropping it and hitting the concrete will work, but you will have to do this several times.
