Becoming an editor today is really a blessing, I can't imagine the horrors of warping layers or tracking points frame-by-frame, it just sounds so exhausting.

Fun Fact: For 1968's the love bug, animators hand tracked and hand painted out wires frame-by-frame in the "lake jumping" scene. This was before computers.

Pretty much what I had to do for my short film. All my gunshots were hand crafted, with no auto assistance. Yeah I probably could have found a way to have automated it. Yet making everything from scratch is very rewarding. Especially when having so many aspects, such as the muzzle flash, background light (biggest pain), barrel smoke, and bolt smoke, as well as making the fake smoke react to different colors.... It's so fun, but very exhaustive.

Question: David Fincher uses digital blood almost exclusively, including running/actively bleeding wounds (See: Girl with Dragon Tattoo - Daniel Craig's bleeding head cut). How could we use these techniques to create simulated flowing blood? Glad to see your videos again!

That’s an interesting application. Usually stock blood is filmed running down a smooth surface. It’d be really cool if this effect would make the blood contour to different shapes as it went. It probably would. 🤔

That's a full fluid simulation with a 3D model underneath the footage - much higher level stuff, and requires VFX expertise and a lot of time to pull of convincingly.

@@TheBoeboe Not necessary. Just do like Ethan said and use the liquify tool or any other layer warping tool to warp the blood around the contour for the key frame.

Followed this step by step, meticulously, and simply won't move. Choosing "stabilize warp" made the tattoo distorted and sit out of place. "Lens undistortion" puts it back in the ballpark where it belongs, but it simply isn't following where the mesh should be. This happening with anyone else, and remedy?

@@Some__Rando Mesh tracking is there in Avid version but only useful for roto due to limitations in Media Composer's compositing workflow. We hope to have the Mesh Insert working in Avid soon.

what file type is your footage? .mov worked perfect for me but .mp4 gave me the issue you mentioned

@@VFXProductionsRT Mine is MP4 straight from my Sony camera ... man I hope your response works cuz ive been on this same clip since early morning and cant' get it to work. the only workaround is manually extracting the track data but that seems to only copy the corner pin which doesnt give that realistic WRINKLE look if you know what i mean ... IM trying ur solution now hold up tho THNX

@@VFXProductionsRT Mate I just subbed to you cuz what u said worked!!! But now i encountered another issue ... The mocha tracking once applied to the tattoo feels a second delayed or out of place. Its not in sync with my facial movement. would you know why?

@@farazshababi1 Setting a reference frame (in the stabilize tab) is an important step. Also, this offset could be due to precomps not being the same duration or trimmed layers. You can find the Mocha user forum here: forum.borisfx.com/c/mochapro/

How do you go around tracking objects/faces in Mocha with an obstruction passing in the foreground? Mocha terminates the tracking process for me, not sure how to get around that. I could hit up a forum but if anybody knows pls comment!

@@nadimkazi87 Nope. I was just experimenting with Mocha Pro for a quick VFX cleanup, I didn’t really need to use it. I ended up using the traditional trackers in After Effects. I just tracked up until before the obstruction passes, then once it passed I put the tracker back to where it was before. This definitely isn’t a fix, for my original comment, though.

Hi! Is there some sort of process to apply a deformation on the left side of a face that starts rotating from left to right? 😭😭😭 (the deformation is done in photoshop).
