Glorious performance. Donal and Andy's wizardly bouzoukis, Christy's blazin' bodhran, Liam's mighty wind. Man, I wish I'd been in Ireland in the late 70s.
One of my favourite tunes played by Planxty. I love they way they build the sound from the two rythmic Bouzouki's to the full sweet melodic voices of Liam O'Flynn's pipes. Beautiful music.
Wonderful - thanks for posting this. The second tune - the one started on the pipes - is Brian O'Lynn's. The third one, where they all kick off together, is Pay the Reckoning. They did this arrangement as the 2nd track on After the Break.
Liam O'Flynn plays the uilleann pipes with Irish traditional music group Planxty, in Scoil Lorcáin Secondary School, Monkstown, County Dublin, in November 1979. This concert was recorded by RTÉ Television and broadcast as an 'Aisling Gheal' special on 20 May 1980. stillslibrary.rte.ie/indexplus/image/2187/008.html
