Walk around the island village East China Sea Maejima Warabi Kojima (Nagasaki Prefecture) / A small island floating in the emerald green sea
Maejima
It is located about 2km south of Narushima Port, the gateway to Narushima. There are two villages, the Kasamatsu district in the east and the Enoura district in the west. Many prehistoric obsidian arrowheads and stone fragments have been found in the south-facing fields of the Kasamatsu district. It produces amethyst and is known for its absence of vipers. Municipal transportation boats make three round trips a day (two of which are on-demand) and connect with Naru Island. The main industry is the fisheries industry, mainly pole-and-line fishing for squid, yellowtail, and sea bream. There is the inconvenience of being an island on another island, but the untouched nature is very attractive. (Refer to "Shimadasu")
Warabi Kojima
It is located 700m off the sea to the northeast of the Warabi Village on Hisaka Island. With a circumference of 1.8km and an area of 0.03㎢, it is one of the smallest islands in Japan. Currently, all households on the island are relatives and live in the Juna Trick Village. There is no regular ferry, so people go outside the island by boat owned by the residents. At one time, they jointly farmed yellowtail. (Refer to "Shimadasu")
Hisaka Island
It is located 11.3 km northeast of Fukue Island. Until 1957, Kugashima Village was formed on one island. Due to the Tsushima warm current, the climate is mild, and the coastline is complicated due to the sloping subsidence coast, and Kuga Bay enters the bay for 5km. It is known as a camellia island with many wild camellias (estimated more than 800,000). The Kuga and Inomoto districts are engaged in agriculture, while the Tanoura and Warabi districts are engaged in fishing. It is said that Japanese envoys to Tang Dynasty ships and Kukai stopped by here, and according to ``Kugashima Local History'', ``Legend of the Heike no Ochudo'' and ``Hidden Christian Legend'', and the phantom island of ``Komashima'' which was said to have sunk overnight. Legends of immigrants have been handed down, and it has a strong image as an "Island of Traditions." It was originally written as "Chizakajima", but it is said that in 1638, in celebration of the completion of the Ishida Jinya in Fukae (Fukue), it was changed to "Kugashima". It is an island that cannot be forgotten in the history of religion as the island where the last great oppression of Christians in Japan took place. The entire island is part of the Hidden Christian Sites of Nagasaki and Amakusa, and has been designated as an Important Cultural Landscape of Japan. New initiatives that make use of the island's assets, such as the establishment of Kugashima Farm, which develops vacation rentals and special products, and the acceptance of foreign students from remote islands at Kuga Elementary and Junior High School, are also attracting attention.
