Extreme Storm Chaser Aaron Jayjack intercepts this September winter storm in western Montana. Video shot at Marias Pass, Glacier National Park, East Glacier, Browning. #glacier #mtwx #winterstorm #montana
Native montanan. You can get snow here any month. Ive been fishing in sunny weather and fought 2 ft of snow going over rogers pass jn june. I remember my father out hunting when i was a kid and the mercury broke at neg 78 below 0. That was at rogers pass!
I can say first hand...as I live up there half the year...that storm was a doozy! We live ten miles west of the Continental Divide...where this video was filmed, and I can honestly say I’ve seen and experienced worse storms in that area...not fun!! We just winterized our Montana summer cabin and left this morning...to winter in the warm desert. We left a beautiful sunny day behind us. I already miss that cabin. We native Montanans have a saying...”if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute.” From the comments I’ve read...you were given the correct pronunciation for, Marias...so I won’t mention it. 😉👍🏼
@@judieklepper2524 hi judie. It was a doosy. As you know most folks havnt been around long enough to exsperience how the weather can be. Its been mild scince 96. Winter of 96 i was living in a tee pee at 7,900 ft. Just south of the bob. Spent 5 years year round in that tent. Theres fewer of us left. I have and always will love montana .
That's actually the 'summit' of Marias Pass (the Great Divide). The county line between Glacier County (east) & Flathead County (west). West Glacier is actually about forty-six miles west of there. Opening scene is in East Glacier (ten miles east).
@@nommadd5758 left there at 13 years old in 1959 on the way to Yellowstone Boys Ranch for a year then headed south. The town went down hill since then. My dad owned the Club Bar about two blocks away from where it is now, they moved it down there after I left.
They Are!!! I live 40 mins from GNP in Western Montana & the Glaciers are almost completely gone!! They were even considering renaming the park to Park of Lakes.....Cuz thats whats left Glacial Lakes!!!
Yeah, something like 12,000 years ago an event occurred and the ice receded. Glacier park isn't known so much for having glaciers, but for having been carved by glaciers.
WTF! seriously @Red Richard? Morons like you pose a bigger threat to us who think of climate change is a scam. Do you even understand the difference between snow and glacier? Do you even understand that this untimely storm is a result of the climate change? We should raise funds and send morons like you to school so the humanity can survive.
I agree my Southern brother I'm from North Carolina I've been to Glacier five times since 1996 what a beautiful place to go check it out sometime I friend
Nope it’s not even bad haha, the snow is starting to melt now but we had -4 degrees yesterday morning. The snow was like that for two and a half days. Most buried peoples cars, houses, even some animals in places
Don't feel bad Texas North Carolina supposed to be 93 tomorrow y'all take care and stay cool if you can I have been. To Glacier National Park five times I almost wished I was there now hot as it is
Weather this year seems to be crazy all over.. Never in my life winter have arrived in September. Here in Scandinavia it came like a month to early. I live in the middle of Sweden by the east coast and we usually get snow in late November, mid December. It has been snowing for a week now, but melts when night breaks in to day. All the trees are still covered in leafs, autumn colored, but at this time with a fluffy white crown.. To early if you ask me! Stay safe!
I started going in 1996 been there five times I feel the same as you do always wanted to move there breathtaking Beauty stayed in Hungry Horse several times West glacier what state are you from I am from North Carolina
Just a heads up... you don't have to yell when it's snowing.. Your phone will pick up your voice in normal levels no problem. Yelling is for hurricane chasers.
In Pittsburgh, it always snows for the first time each year on right after Thanksgiving. It used to be like clockwork. Jet Streams aren't functioning the right way now.
I stayed in Browning many moons ago, in the 80's infact! I was only young with family, we were on a mini tour of Montana, I think we where the first English to stay there for many years, some of town came to greet us at the motel, the weather was very kind back then lol.
Nice video. Two questions, about how cold is the coldest it it gets in your parts in the winter? Did the bears have enough time to burrow and hiburnate or will they still be out for a month or two? I hope it snows 4 feet for ya'll !
I'm sorry, but if you think this is bad you need to go back home. Its not bad in Montana until you can't drive anywhere and have to use your horse to go to the grocery store.
heavy snow is very bad for deciduous trees that still have their leaves. Expect to see a massive amount of dead trees after this. Not even a little bit funny. This is a natural disaster.
RW Jazz have you been to glacier? Very few deciduous trees, it is mostly evergreens. The few deciduous trees they do have are well adapted to this and fall colors were in full swing when I was there last week, they had already started the process of losing leaves
@@Hazelrat10 Why does have to be so hard? Tree damage caused by the weekend snowstorm is among the worst city forester Todd Seymanski has ever seen. "I'm going to say close to 50 percent sustained either minor or major damage," Seymanski said of trees in the city's tree boulevard district. Two boulevard trees were lost in the storm, he said. The weather event is among the top two or three in terms of damage to trees, Seymanski said. Great Falls Montana.
