Vintage 1940s Weekend
Saturday 25th May 2024
The Spring Bank Holiday sees the ELR's annual 1940s Weekend, brining a wartime theme to the railway. The 2024 event saw a pair of gun carriages carried on a wagon on the rear of a train hauled by Southern Railway Bulleid Light Pacific 34092 City of Wells. Wells is captured departing Burrs Country Park with the 3pm service to Rawtenstall. Converted Hunslet Austerity Works No. 2890 (Douglas), a locomotive built for the war effort (War Department No. 75041) is captured passing Signal R64 (the Bury South Up Outer Home Repeater) with the 4pm Bury Bolton Street to Rawtenstall service, with a Class 14 on the rear, and the Great Western Railway 'Waterman Saloon'.
The third steam locomotive out over the weekend was LMS Jinty 47298, which is captured departing Burrs Country Park Halt.
The final shot sees Wells return with the gun carriages back through Burrs Country Park towards Bury. The train is seen crossing Higher Woodhill Viaduct which is subject to an appeal to raise funds for major works. Details on the appeal can be found here: www.justgiving...
Please note, there is no public lineside access on the East Lancs, lineside shots are taken as a Working Member with Accredited Photographer status.
