One of the oldest working steam locomotives in the world was one of East Lancashire Railways guests at the Autumn Steam Gala. It was fitting to see the engine men in period uniform, a rake of vintage stock would make a perfect scene, but the railway does not have any really old coaches they can use so, 1960's Mk 1 it had to be. The other locomotive I really wanted to see there was the British Railways standard 9f 2-10-0 one of our largest and most powerful, built to haul heavy freight it was found they were equally capable of running at speed on passenger trains, so turned out an all round good locomotive. A really enjoyable day with plenty of trains running.
