They most likely already had train orders to flag across that crossing because it was already known to be in inoperative. They weren't blowing for the crossing upon approach so that tells you they knew it already. Former engineer and local to these tracks.
I wouldnt call it a failure t all. Train stopped. Crew member got off and flagged the crossing. The train pulled on and then the crewman got back on the loco. No failure!
Nice catch of the East Penn GP18 approaching the failed signal. Big fan of this short line railroad and i hope someday when heading to Lancaster i see it in action! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA.
I would be interested to know which crossing this was. I grew up around there (near Pocopson - 50 years ago) back when it was still the Reading Railroad (unless it was the part of the Pennsylvania that went down to Oxford).

@@ESPN7554Railfan I later was thinking that you were most likely not really standing that close to the train and either were zooming in with your video camera or had it on a tripod but were not standing near the train. But filming a train with a phone on a rock? Now that is the FIRST time that I have heard that from anyone on RU-vid filming trains. What a GREAT idea! And BTW, what brand and model of phone do you have? It sure took a nice video.
