My uncle Rosario & Mario were two of the original Fordham Baldies that started that gang in the Bronx that inspired the movie, "The Wanderers." Always funny to see it referenced, even tho the movie was nothing like the real baldies. Haha. Love you Colin.
This was amazing to get to hear from Alan himself after hearing about him from so many different comedians. Wonderful conversation. Perfect follow up to Colin's comedy special.
Colin this series is top tier. I've never been to New York but it's certainly one of the most unique cities on the planet and it's cool to see all the different neighborhoods and hear the stories from those who live there. Thanks for these, you're a champion and a dreamer🤌🤌🤌
I really love these videos you produce Colin with the people with an insider on the ground experience of New York's colorful history in different parts of town. The discussion on psychology and comedy is a total bonus. I share your enthusiasm when engaging with people like Alan Lefkowitz, it's totally contagious y'know. Very interesting and entertaining episode you have here with A.L.
This is such an unusual thing to do for someone so famous! That is why I admire Colin Quinn so much! I do not think there could be anyone else on the planet who could pull off something like this! Amazing!
Colin Quinn....I spoke on a mic sometime in the late 1980's in Tompkins Sq.Park.under the clamshell which I think has been torn down...It was an honor..I didn't get many laughs...But it was amazing to be trying to wake myself up and the people around me...truly..I
This is great Colin, you showcase an interesting neighborhood in NYC, and Alan himself is interesting, you did a good job of letting him share some interesting stories and viewpoints....another good Block by Block!!👍
Colin, I read A Confederacy of Dunces because of you. Exceeded my expectations. Now please make a video of you walking around with Mr. Richard Vos talking about crack cocaine. Thanks baby, luv ya ❤
Just for your younger audience who don't understand what flunking out means: Back in the day you had to hold a certain GPA or you were sent home. College wasn't for profit so you you didn't have the option of paying again taking the same classes. You had to beg and cry and maybe, just maybe they'd let you try again. Otherwise you had to try new schools until you found someone who would take you and then hopefully you could transfer to a legit school after a year or two.
Another tremendous episode. What a series this turning out to be! I lived between 7th & 8th on Avenue C in 2007. Fascinating to hear about that area’s past from people who really lived it.
My friend from Montreal and I went to the Tennant Museum. Last week. When we came out we started walking down Delaney . The street was blocked off. Cop and fire engines sirens going. helicopters loud in the sky. After an hour of that I said I think we should leave the area…..2 cops were shot. It was a NY Moment. My Dad lived in the West Village my whole life. It’s quieter over there…..
Such a great episode. And speaking of Frank McCourt, please consider writing books on the history of NYC - whether it’s like the New York Story in print, or the history of each section of NYC even, but from your perspective, or from those you’ve interviewed on these eps. The history; the underground, the scandals, etc. Like TJ English, Frank McCourt & Scorcese---only better and funnier
Turn of the century in this culture is depicted well with Robert DeNiro and James Woods in "Once Upon a Time in America". The best author on the early Jewish cultures is the story of Abraham & Straus. That was when it all started. The Jewish became a great addition to the NYC landscape. The good academic text is "The Rise of David Levinsky" by Abraham Cahan. This book is worth a read for any Jewish NY'er. There is nothing like a nice Jewish girl and a Pastrami Sandwich with the spicy mustard. And a knish.
Very interesting interview. I think that comedians just want to have fun too. There's a lot of material here for other books, some that would go deeper than the subjects dealt with in this interview.
It’s funny he’s therapist to all these comics does not appear to have any sense of humor at all . He’s not remotely amused by any of Colin’s anecdotes .
I’m in New York and it’s barely interesting. At least Colin is making things again, though. He’s the cream of the crop at this point because of how unfunny everyone else is.
