Religion is, by its very nature, hateful in that it requires persecution/forced conversion of others under penalty, including death. The Talmud, Bible and Qu'ran all have admonitions requiring the death penalty, from Apostasy to Homosexuality, among others. So while you may personally not be hateful when interacting with Gays, the fact remains your holy book(s) and precepts therein are. As for the Islamaphobia claim, no, I have no irrational fear of Islam, I do however fear Islam as a teaching. Why? Because the one thing Islam claims that neither Judaism or Christianity does, is that it is the final word/revelation of god. This absolutism makes Islam, by definition, a dangerous religious concept in that it dares to presume authority over all others to the point of violence where prescribed within the Qu'ran, even Sharia has its nasty side. Such absolutism inevitably leads to zealotry, which we have all been witness to over the last few decades. That is indeed something to fear. Now, before you do the "whataboutism" that many do in regards to criticism of Islam, let me be clear; both Judaism and Christianity have had their time in the sun when it comes to violence, no sane person would deny that; however, Judaism does not proselytize like Christianity and Islam do and this is a key point when understanding why I see both as a threat. The fact remains that, at this point in time, people such as myself are, statistically, in more danger within a Muslim nation (even some neighborhoods in some cities) than a Christian or Jewish one. The facts bare this out. Finally, you should know that I see religion, in all its forms, to be anathema to peace and freedom as all demand a degree of obedience to a deity that has yet to be proven to even exist. It's literally a delusional state of mind and thus, by that reality alone, makes their adherents potentially a threat should anyone other a criticism. As someone who has been on the receiving end of both Christian and Muslim "love", I can assure you my fears are not unfounded. So, call me what you want, but as a gay man who has had to endure the cruelty of the faithful and their judgments on pretty much a daily basis, I'll remain more than a little dubious where Islam is concerned.
