I really liked the early Phil (1990-early 1996), he seemed like a decent bloke just trying to build up a successful business and develop a relationship with Kathy, it is a shame that they had to write the character in 1996 with a drinking problem that spiralled out of control and eventually ended up with him losing Kathy and Ben but I guess that it makes for better television that way.
This is the Phil I want back , he vanished when Grant left for good and the producers merged Grant's personality with Phil's . Back then he was a man with deep flaws but you could understand why Kathy fell for him .
Those were the days when Phil was the likable friendly brother outta him and Grant, he didn't like hitting women, was openly caring and even took a strong liking to Arthur Fowler, as he even helped Arthur out on an occasion, such as giving him driving lessons and helping him get a car. Hell even THE ORIGINAL AND REAL MICHELLE FOWLER liked Phil back then, and we all know how much she hated Grant
Michelle sure did get around. The last video I watched, she was working in the Vic. I'm just trying to remember if she worked in Beale's chippy.It's hard to remember so long ago. I don't watch this nowadays, but a video comes on RU-vid and I ended up watching about 2 hours worth of random Eastenders clips. Not enough Steve Owen on RU-vid. haha Grant's gym days raised a smile. Good times.
