Dennis Neil Team Honda Last ride if you watch you will see why. Awesome doco Ron Boulden, Greg Pretty Hiscock and so many more, but Conrod Straight in all its Old Day Glory. Long , Fast and Horsepower ruled.
It was fun on our side of the fence, but nobody with any real ability wants to race there anymore. Hold onto your memories of the great times & travelling marshals, but watch races now at tracks where riders rarely pay the supreme sacrifice for our entertainment.
@@kencarse3677 - Are any Australians among them? We're still getting over the death of Kenny Blake at IOM 40 years ago. Memorial sculpture made 37 years after the crash: www.kennyblakestrathalbyn.com.au/monument/ and we're wiser for the experience.
@ Ken Carse you're so ignorant you've never heard of David Johnson? How about the current BSB Champion Josh Brookes? He has raced at the TT and did very well finishing 6th in the Senior. Of course they should bring bike racing back to Bathurst. Blokes who race at the TT, NW200., Macau or any Irish Road Races would love to race at Bathurst. Throw in a few local lads and it would be epic.
It didn't matter how drunk the boys were, they always came to the fence for the sidecar races Great to see the famous faces of that era (my era), Jan and Arthur Blizzard, Moyna Boulden, Mick Cole and others; they were a special breed...
The XS1100 Wasn't meant to be a Racebike but Obviously No one Told that To Greg Pretty👍😎 What a Great Era, Of Motorsport & Last Vestage of True Dinky Die "Australis Intoxicis MoCycolis" at play in their Natural Habitat- Now Hunted to Extinction by "Politisis Corretisis" 😉 -Cheers👍🍺🍻
I spent years in the 70's as a kid hanging around the pits with a relative who raced 2 stroke 250's (albeit C grade), at Oran Park and Amaroo Raceway. Went to Bathurst once, never forget seeing so many tough bike racers being sick with fear the night before.
Unfortunately, the insurance companies are the ones that killed off the bikes at Bathurst - it was getting harder and harder to find an insurance company that would cover the event. They were the ones who also killed off the reverse direction they ran alternatively at Winton for the Aust Superbike races. The guys loved the change, going anti clockwise made it a completely different track to ride compared to the normal clockwise direction. The way things are going, all the Targa races will go the same way after the 4 dying in last 2 years. It is ALWAYS the non riding/non racers who get up and make a lot off noise that these things should be cancelled, and as we know, the minority get listened to, unfortunately.
I love the non motorcyclists commentary view, and the towns folk impressions .. and the scene on the hill when the side cars are out .. commentator .. and suddenly Odd behavior breaks out 😀😁😂😃😄😅
It's sadly ironic that several riders who competed at the treacherous Mt Panorama circuit in that era lost their lives in completely different crash circumstances. Mike Hailwood - car crash on a street (not his fault). Gregg Hansford - crash in a car race. Rodger Freeth - crash in a car rally. Greg Pretty - motorcycle crash on a road (coroner's report: it was his fault).
I attended these Easter races in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984 and then spent a day watching a car race at the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 1999. I agree that the tracks look very similar, although I don't think the N-ring has any humps that send riders into the air for 50 metres.
@@JanBinnendijk - The name sounds like it, but I've watched several videos (cars & motorcycles) including a couple of friendly chases, but nobody has left the ground. If there's a car capable of jumping, this would be it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EM6nyGWcXks.html . I think Flugplatz is around 3 min 35 sec (39 sec on the car's timer) - please tell me if I'm correct. The dangerous jump at Mt Panorama was last used at high speed in October 1986 when it caused a huge fatal car crash In the Bathurst 1000 km. A track modification (The Chase) followed.
@@brianvogt8125 modern racecars have too much downforce, but there are plenty of pictures of Porsches 917's and f1 cars being airborne on the Nurburgring, in multiple places..
@@JanBinnendijk All I wanted was one modern example, but you can't provide it, so I think track modifications have made it safe, as at Mount Panorama in 1987.
@@darrencottam1146 Oh I get it. I am old enough to remember those days of sipping a beer, no helmets, no seatbelts and doors left unlocked overnight. You have to admit, to see the difference between then and now with that one image is funny.
@@HumbugShow totally,I just found these videos now ,and the just remind me of my childhood.i mean you can feel the dew and smell the smoke in this video.and i still have my mini beer stein my father let me drink shandies in with him.
