On October 5, 2024, in coordination with a closure of the Confederation Line, East West Connectors advanced integration testing for the eastern extension of Line 1. Throughout the day, numerous Alstom Citadis Spirit trainsets operated between Tunney’s Pasture and Trim Station, running every few minutes at near-service speeds. The extension's infrastructure underwent rigorous trials to synchronize its systems with those of the existing Confederation Line. The testing included coordination of the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, system upgrades, and operator trials to ensure smooth integration across the expanded network.
According to OC Transpo, the maintainer successfully completed the planned train control system testing and upgrades, thanking customers for their patience during the temporary service disruption.
This event marks a major milestone in the project, transitioning to more advanced testing to validate signalling, power systems, and station readiness for revenue service. Over the coming months, additional testing and commissioning will continue ahead of the targeted opening in Spring 2025, when this extension will provide a vital transit link to Ottawa's eastern communities.
