I love these adventures. There's something odd about this lake but the birds are so beautiful. I'll skip the flies thank you. Thanks for the invite. Hi Amy.
Definitely 3 worthy stops, but IMO Bodie & Hetch Hetchy are head & shoulders above! One could spend multiple days at each location taking in all that wonder.
A shout-out to the Mono Lake Committee that fought the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power over water diversions and won, saving the lake from disaster.
Bodie is amazing. Like you I've been there 2 or 3 times but I'm alway eager to go back. Perhaps this year. I LOVE US 395, a really beautiful drive. Thanks for the great video.
Thank you SO much for the visit to Hetch-Hetchy! My bad knee and I will probably never get there, but I have been lucky to get around quite a bit over the High Granite, especially beloved Sonora Pass.
I'm about due for another Eastern Sierra trip. I love it out there. These are some good picks for an area with seemingly infinite things to see and places to explore.
I have been at that dam, and I absolutely loved it. I was taking so many pictures that the three other people that we were with threatened to take my camera away and actually did because I would love to stop and take a picture of everything but it was amazing.
Great stops! I had no idea about the film set on Mono Lake, I enjoyed that segment. I haven't been to Bodie, for whatever reason, I'm not sure i want to go there. Hetch Hetchy! Man, this is a beautiful spot! I did a solo day trip here last year for the first time, and I was blown away! We actually have a cabin at the awanhneee in the valley for a few days in March, but I hope to get back to Hetchy Hetchy later in the spring 😊
Tioga Pass is beautiful. I was under the impression Schat's is Dutch. I wanted to make sure what the pronunciation was before I roasted Glenn in a recent short. 😅
You covered so much in this 17 minute video, very well put together! And thanks for my favorite, bad, bad bodie! Which seems to have a more family oriented aspect to its existence at one time too. 💫🏜️⚡
I imagine a lot of those old mining towns had their share of different sorts passing through - get rich quick types as well as families that would find moving around following strikes a bit more difficult. I could be wrong though. 😊
In Bodie? The town did get electricity around the turn of the century. I know they have rangers who live on the property so I would have to think it still has electricity today.
You said "Sierra Nevada" instead of "Sierras" or "Sierra Nevadas", and you pronounced Mono Lake correctly. Great video so far, but you lost me at Hetch Hetchy, which is NOWHERE NEAR the Eastside. It's in the Western Sierra. If you're gonna do the Eastern Sierra and 395, then you missed out on The Alabama Hills. Why? Weird. (Speaking as a former Inyo National Forest Ranger, Yosemite National Park ranger, and Momo Lake Committee employee).
