+Ben Salt Which Marks and Spencers? I know that the one in Gravesend had an Evans. And by Evans do you mean with Evans buttons, or is it ones of those Dewhurst ones (square buttons with red around them) and it just says Evans at the bottom of the panel, as these are 90s generic Otis lifts which Otis used the Evans name on them.
+Beno They must be the 90s Otis lifts, as they had the Dewhurst buttons (which are excessively large in my opinion). It was the M&S in Cribbs Causeway (near Bristol).
+ Ben Salt most of the lifts there are hydraulics. And most of them are Otis 2000s. There is a couple of generics in shops and an Eco mod. The Otis lifts in John Lewis are not to bad though.
This stupid platform lift is not great just film best lifts but skip a head film good lifts is just so so good and you will go yay the lifts you are going to like.
Get this. I went to a shop a few days ago which had a stannah. The funny thing was is that there were 2 floors. On the guide it called it Ground and 1 howecer in the lift it called 1 and 2? So stannah can do it. They just do not get the floor numbering correct
Beno, I know that you really like ThyssenKrupp. If UK's Marks & Spencer shops have generics, the M&S on Paris Champs Elysées has a "futuristic" Thyssenkrupp, just as you like. But in my opinion, I don't really like Thyssenkrupp in France, because they modernize everything, and install bad quality lifts similar to generics. In the news, when I read incidents about elevators, at most of the time, the lift in question was installed or maintained by TK. It's not the case in other countries' TKs
Waitrose tend to do fairly crap lifts. My local two stores have their (ex Safeway/Morrisons) lifts modernised by Temple Lifts (even though Temple's service areas don't include Scotland). Having said that their last modernisation has stopped the lifts being under separate call buttons. John Lewis (parent company of Waitrose) tends to go for decent lifts, my local one has Otis (some modernised by Otis). They are installing some more (semi-temporary) ones being installed soon- it will be interesting to see what they install. Agree with the M&S lifts- they seem to like installing crap generics. Network Rail seem to get "Stupid Stannah" to get the floor numbers correct (even if they insist on the weird scrolling Dewhurst displays).
Safeway used to have some excellent Keighley lifts in their stores in Sutton, West Wickham, Margate, Caterham and more stores I imagine had them but sadly they've all been modernised by Temple Lifts, or UK Lift
John Lewis nearly always have Otis lifts, & they can be from many different eras, from the old 50s designs with round black buttons, to the Gⓔn2. So you'd think Waitrose would have gen2s as well, but no. Here are some examples of what Waitrose have: ⓦSheen: No lift ⓦWestfields: Very slow lift as seen at 7:29 ⓦTwickenham: Schindler MRL with M-line buttons
This is long so you don't have to read it if you don't have time. 2:27 We have 5 of this make of generic lift in a shopping center and they are so big that they are almost moving rooms (33 person capacity) . AND THEY ARE GENERIC KONE, I HATE THOSE LIFTS!!!! There's 3 lifts which are not a set, and the other 2 are single lifts. Buttons and indicator light up green and it says Kone in the glowing brand thing but the buttons and the indicators are same. The lifts are REALLY cheap. I security breaked one and we got stuck until security reset the lift. Also there's a set of 3 Kone lifts which look like EcoDiscs but they're not. Those are slow but at least have got some quality. And there's ONLY ONE ECODISC IN THE HUGE SHOPPING CENTER!!! The Ecodisc is nice and fast as usual. And it is glass!! Neither one of the 3-set lifts or the EcoDisc has the EcoDisc logo in the lift car. And there are four service lifts which are also Kone. They are sets of 2 but they do not work cooperatively, they have separate call buttons. Edit: Came back after 2 years and decided to do grammatical corrections. There might still be errors.
I saw a awesome Schindler MRL in Marks and Spencers at a retail park but I don't know if it is reliable because it sadly spent over 3 weeks out of service
+kriskolo2013 I filmed these first episodes a while ago. I try a keyswitch at the end of episode 7. Then episode 8 is filmed a few days later when I go back to the same lift just after I brought my Dewhurst key.
a platform lift has no reason in a shopping mall. they need to be proper lifts. floor, 3 walls, a door and a ceiling. m&s find crap lifts entertaining.
