This is the easy way. Everyone else I watched was telling you guys you had to jack up the car and take soooo many things off. That is not the case. I hope you run into the video before you start waisting your time taking other things off and making it harder for yourself. If this video helped Like, Comment and Subscribe please! =) There is more to come!

As a female motorhead who's been replacing bolt-on parts myself for 45 years now, I always appreciate seeing another woman doing the work herself. Also thanks for the tip on removing that support to get the alternator out. In compact cars the hard part is usually getting to the problem without removing a bunch of other parts that are in the way. You go girl! 🙂

Thank you! I watched four other videos before this one, and yours was absolutely the best. Three of the other four had people talking off all kinds of things to get at the alternator. OK I just spent the last four hours working on mine, everything came off super easy, the difference is I don’t know about your year, but on the 2001 and 2002 there are two bolts that are shorter at the bottom. The one on the right side has literally no clearance for you to get a ratchet or anything down there. That’s what’s going on because I just spent three hours trying to get that one bolt off

thanks for this. just swapped the alty in my pulsar (aussie sentra). only difference was 2 small bolts either side at the bottom instead of 1 long one. May be why some have had to take of the heat shield (to get the socket on), but i just used a smaller el cheapo socket set and a pipe for leverage.

what is your method for regaining tension on the belt AND threading the top mounting bolt. Are you able to position the new alternator, reroute the belt, and easily thread the lower, brass colored bolt back in? Once that is accomplished, are you able to use a pry bar to re-tension the belt, align the alternator top mounting hole and thread the short 14mm bolt back in with out it binding/cross threading it?

Will this work for the 1.8 Sentra? Also, do you have a video where you reinstall the alternator? Does it go back in as easily?
@Smokinskittles
@Smokinskittles 2 года назад
mine did not actually go back in as easily as I have heard others go in. That part did make me a little nervous because I uploaded the video before reinstalling the other and found that I had to readjust the tensioner because I also replaced the belt.

Shane Masters Music Official nope it doesn’t actually I had trouble with the alternator bolt not gonna lie 😬
@Smokinskittles
@Smokinskittles 4 года назад
Shane Masters Music Official and the belt will be a lot lot tighter when putting it on so you will need to loosen the tension on the tensioner to put the belt back on. Look up how to do that and you will be perfect to tackle this job. Don’t over think it.

Are you able to easily swap the alternator (from the top) with a new one, and get the belt back on.. without having to jack it up and remove the wheel?
@jdemo7167
@jdemo7167 4 года назад
When re-installing the tension on the belt will make putting the bolt back on/in almost impossible.
@Smokinskittles
@Smokinskittles Год назад
I personally did have trouble putting it back in but I didn’t have to take off the wheel I got to the tensioner from the bottom.
@Smokinskittles
@Smokinskittles Год назад
ALMOST impossible is correct. I had to really put force in it but it’s possible without taking the wheel off. This one was a fun job I remember I wasn’t about to Jack up the car so I just drove up on ramps.

3/8 ratchet, 3/8” 10 mm socket or 10mm wrench for the 3 bolts in the beginning, 3/8” 12mm socket. 14mm for the bolts in the back of the alternator. 3/8th breaker bar for the bold in the back. You might need a 1” extension to make ratcheting the other bolt out easier.
