EASY 1.19 Minecraft Bedrock Ghast Farm & Gunpowder Farm Tutorial! (PC, XBOX, PS4, MCPE, Switch)

I learned that MikeHomer / @mikehomer made a very similar farm before I did. Be sure to visit and subscribe to him!
I learned a lot about Ghasts while making this Minecraft Bedrock Ghast Farm for 1.19. Going back to minecart mechanics made the redstone on this farm extremely simple.
One of the best things about this farm is that you can size it however you want or expand it another day to get more gunpowder for your realm/server!
Yields on this farm range from the simple at 2.5 stacks of gunpowder per hour all the way up to 26 stacks of gunpowder/hr for the larger, but still simple design!! This is the best gunpowder farm that I've made so far. The material list is broken out so you can expand it however you want.
Materials List for the build in the tutorial:
1 Row of Minecarts and Activator Rails
80 Glass blocks (bring extras)
13 activator rails
13 mine carts
13 levers
Spawn Platform
144 Solid blocks for first build
180 Solid blocks for subsequent rows
bring some torches for under the rails for when the build gets large, you need to scare away those skeletons
Each Trident Killer
2 chest
2 hopper
1 boat
11 glass blocks
1 piston
1 trident
1 solid block
Repeater torch clock
4 solid blocks
1 lever
1 repeater
1 torch
1 slab or glass block
Redstone to connect Pistons
6 glass blocks
8 redstone dust
Redstone Repeaters when the build gets large
Unloader
2 chest
3 solid blocks
1 comparator
1 redstone dust
1 gate
1 redstone torch
1 piston
9 solid blocks add 5 for each new row
12 rails (powered/rail) add 5 for each new row
2 levers add 1 for each 2 new row

AFK position
Lots of glass. Use scaffolding or ladders to reach the afk position if you don't have an elytra.
Sword with the Looting III enchantment
Its recommended to bring spare blocks of everything especially glass blocks, because lava is hot. Also bring some fire resistance potions!

@@waka1x1waka Now Nether mobs will spawn on light level 0-11, it's why you need more torches.

I added jack o lanterns with 4 blocks between each in a grid layout on the spawning platform, since they are a spawnable block it has no negative effect, worked great, thanks

Wow. This is spot on! I built the whole thing after some spawn-proofing. Produces like a champ! Even put a remote switch and item elevator so I never have to go down to the farm from my afk spot. So amazing! Thanks for the awesome tutorial!

@@mateom1813 a lot of glass, red stone, and repeaters that use a lever to activate the trident killers. It was a lot of work. I also completely covered the farm in glass for protection. Hope this makes sense.

Built this, it works incredibly well! Some thoughts/suggestions: 1) the sound this farm makes is... ghastly 2) definitely bring shulkers of invis and fire res potions when you build this. harrowing experience, a ghast almost blasted several of my most critical shulker boxes into lava 3) spawn proof the perimeter before you build this or use invis when spawn proofing. Ghasts in the kill chamber shot at me while I was spawn proofing, destroying some of the kill chambers and the redstone line

Thanks so much for this. I just finished on Bedrock Realms 1.19.1 and it works awesome. I was able to do pretty easily using a lot of invisibility potions. I also really enjoyed the tutorial. It was very easy to follow and gave just the right amount of information. And the mine carts shuffling the ghasts is fun to watch. With a Looting III sword I get almost 2 stacks sometimes 2.5 stacks per hour and that’s with just two rails. I might put in more rails but this is really more than enough for one or two people.

Great farm man, build one layer because i ran out of materials. Finally added 2 extra layers and works great. If any one is gonna make it. Spawn proof before you build the farm. It wont remove ghast fully, but atleast make it more doable

PSA, if you build it in a nether waste or somewhere where pigmen spawn, make the spawn platform out of nether wart block and it will increase spawn rates.

I habe build this farm on three different severs and it never failed me i build eight parts and made 2 double chests (only gunpowder not ghast tears ) in one hour best bedrock gunpowder’s and ghastfarm you can find keep up the good work ❤

Late to the party, but you used the upside down lever on some other farms - it is a LIFESAVER!! I've used it in little farms that I just yolo'd without thinking them through. It's amazing how easy it is to lock a hopper when you aren't thinking. 😆 This is always a fix for it. (so far)

This is a great farm when mob proofed I got around 27 stacks of gunpowder in a hour its insane. One thing though I found that there is a flaw, I left the farm to run overnight and when I came back on I saw that two ghasts were in the same boat and kept spamming in and out. I knew they hadn't despawned as I checked the loot in the chests. It's a small chance this clearly happens but just know that when you afk this farm check it now and then to make sure the ghasts aren't stuck.

I loved building this farm! I wasn't able to get the boat to work though - it kept falling off no matter what I tried. My workaround- on the hopper that feeds the chest I put a regular rail and minecart (orientated the same way as the tippy ones). I then put glass on both sides to keep it in place. Works like a charm. I learned a lot from making this farm and I look forward to using that knowledge on future builds. Thank you!

I'm loving the farms but I just cant build them fast enough, I'm still scouting for the perfect wither skelly farm and now I have to make a ghast farm too. I like this mine cart movement and am trying to use it in a passive farm too. Amazing work, keep it up, I'll catch up eventually

Stoic, thanks for all the great and timeless tutorials! Just got back into Minecraft after a few month hiatus. It’s as pleasing as always! I built a small manual ghast farm 30x30x4 room and put glass blocks and leaf blocks in the 3rd block level to block the vision of the ghast, works well for now. But think I’m going to make a hybrid with this farm in mind!

Yeah this ghast farm is much simpler than SilentW because you don’t have to do weird stuff to kill them. Great farm and tutorial Stoic I just need to find the perfect place to build it (there is no soul sand valley biomes within 1k blocks of my portal).

This is not a small build. It’s very intense and I’ve used a lot of totems, invisibility and fire res. potions in this build…phewwwww this is a lot of work in survival 😂😂🤣🤣. I went with the 8 rows and will have the spawn platform installed. Thanks for this and I look forward to the loot! Also one quick question: I made a visual cross in the lava, spawn proofed, will this affect the rates or is it safe to keep. I plan on removing all my excess construction walk ways once the platform is built. Also if you have the time to pop in and have a look to let me know what might be a problem that’d be great. I understand how busy running a channel can be so I understand if it’s not a possibility. I do have discord 🤗 thanks for the vid again!

So i finished it the other night did the full 8 row this thing was super easy to build (for a large platform floating over a lake of lava) i used a lot of potions but the simplicity of the build made it really not bad at all and the rates are quite nice

@@StoicEpoch you do a good job with these ive built your witch farm and a modified version of the wither skelly farm(theres a second spawn spot accross from each of the ones you used in the wall section if you tear it out so i built a double row of carts i dont know if its doubly efficient as of yet because i havent finished mob proofing that area (its not an ideal spot) but the farm was again really easy (relatively lets face it all nether farms are litterally hell) and despite non ideal area it still does a solid job) im a long time java player new to bedrock and i find your farms are right now some of the best balance between ease of building and really decent rates also really enjoy how well you explain the mechanics of the thing it makes it easy for me to take the idea of the design and make it a little more my own and also easier to fix when i mess up. keep up the good work 👏

I'll look into that double spawn. You know if you block the -Z and Z direction of a mine cart it will throw the mob to the east. So if your second row is to the west of your main spawn row, you could move them east then into the main flow. Just a thought! =)

I'm here to provide my own numbers to the table. I was afking while working at home, from 8 am till 5 pm I can say I got 12 and a half stacks of gunpowder and 10 stacks of tears, so it doesn't match the 2.5/3 stacks of gp/hr nor the 2.8 gt/hr, but I think that it's still better than struggling with creeper farms. Also, I was having in my hand at all times a Looting III sword. I'll expand it from two modules to 4, then 6, and I'll submit my rates. Playing in PC 1.19.10 :)

By the way, I followed the advice of lighting it with torches, places 1 every 4 blocks and used nether wart blocks to prevent pigmen from spawning as I saw in one of the comments, that really helped having only ghasts spawning in the platform.

So with the boat thing being broken I replaced the it with a mine cart. However, most of the time, ghast end up getting sent through the cart conveyer but end up getting stuck part way through. They some how get out of the cart n get stuck on the line no matter how close/far apart I place the rails. Any suggestions?

So I found a work around I think will work but it might break upon reloading. Taking away the glass barriers in which are meant to keep the carts in place seem to transfer ghasts without a problem. The carts don’t fall off and no ghasts get stuck as long as you replace the boat with a normal rail* and cart (on the location of the hopper that feeds directly to the chest). I havnt tested it yet but I have a feeling that upon reloading the area, there will probably be a chance that the carts fall off the rails *also side note, for some reason ghasts that spawn on the outer most layer ms can potentially slide off the platform and float around freely. So I built a two block tall wall one block away from the platform. One block away because they for some reason just float through it if it’s directly bordering the platform

After some testing I figured it out, here’s what I found. So far no reloading has forced the carts off the rails. However, the ghasts sometimes force the carts on the normal rails at the end of the transportation line off. I’ve noticed the only direction the carts are pushed off is to the right (facing the red stone components). So in conclusion, the only further adjustment needed to make this design work besides what l have stated in the previous comment, is placing a glass block to the right of the regular rail along with a slab on the left as in extremely rare cases I have seen it go off on that side too when it’s intended course of projection (to the right) is obstructed You can probably do slabs on each side of every activator rail seeing that it’s not stopping the ghasts from being transported like when there was a full glass block. But they don’t seem to move since ghasts no longer get stuck on them. Also I’ve been working on fixing this for too long and don’t feel like testing it, sorry PS, I know the comment is pinned by the channel, but remember to add extra torches between the spawning platforms. Thank you for anyone taking the time to read these essays and I hope it helped anyone who wanted to fix their farms instead of tearing em down or anyone who’s making new ones

Great question! At the end of the line the 1st ghast gets thrown into a boat. The 2nd ghast in that line "waits its turn" in the last minecart. Once the first is dead, the second goes into the boat.

yes. you'll need to slab or destroy those blocks. If you don't then the ghast will spawn outside of your farm and you won't get anywhere near the rates shown.

The success of the farm relies on only having the platform spawn ghasts. Once a ghast spawns some where outside the platform then in floats around for a while hurting your rates.

Ended up re-prioritizing this machine was gonna build it after my potion machine but i want to build my potion machine inside my dark wizard tower and decided i need to excavate a perimeter around it for the proper aesthetic so now im in need of all the gunpowder

Sadly with the latest update this farm no longer works. The ghasts won't get in the boats and just push them out of the way, while not getting killed by the trident killer. I hope you give us an update to this farm.

The afk position in the video has the full build out in mind. So yes, the lines need to move toward the afk position then go past it as you add more.

I think I may have one of my boats slightly out of place because the Ghast appears to take 20 seconds to die on that conveyer, but I’m not going to change anything at this point. 3 lines, rates are good. Haven’t done a long enough test to get statistically significant results.

Just finished the first time and I love this farm. My one issue is I wish there was a way to turn the activator rails off like Gruba does with the target blocks in his nether fortress farm. I tried to get that and several other ideas to work, but all interfered with the spawning. if anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. found a great nether farm spot with a gold farm spot next to this soul sand valley fight next to a nether fortress (even has a dual blaze spawner) and want to set up a piglin bartering farm that smelts swords with coal/blaze rods. I know it's going to be a lag machine if I'm not careful, so looking for anything I can turn off and on.

You've convinced me to start a Discord Server. So you can place a target block directly above a minecart. Run redstone adjacent to it and you can switch this on and off. Be sure to have glass above the target block. The ghasts will still travel through.

Hi Stoich just for clarification to your idea for the placement of the redstone is it right next to the target block or 1 block below but still right next to the target block?

@@christoph4294 I would put a line of glass blocks between the target blocks one row above the target blocks and leaving a space empty in the glass line above each target block. That way you can run redstone and turn it off and on. If you are thinking to use sticky Pistons with redstone blocks to turn each target block off and on, I would suggest trying the glass line out in creative first as it would be much cheaper and easier to build. At least that's my plan when I get a minute to work on my farm more.

Great question. I plan to build this in the realm I share with others. I don't think it will have an impact on my performance. But lag can impact you depending on how busy your realm/server is, your internet connection, your console, or if someone has 160 cows all in a small area.

One of the conveyor belts is working but the other one the ghast just get stuck at the end, and don’t go into the friend killer, so you know what’s gone wrong?

Hard to say. Maybe the ghast can't get to the boat. Is the boat in the correct location?

@@StoicEpoch I was able to fix it! Basically there was a piece of glass that was blocking the ghast from getting it. It’s actually turned out to be useful as I now have a much safer locking method for the farm

Can i add more rows to make it more efficient? Or will the rows be too far to spawn ghasts?

If you AFK as shown, you can have 8 rows in Simulation 4.

Is there any way to add a switch to turn the activator rails on and off? I’ve tried different ways on creative but don’t want to negatively affect the spawn rate

I just built a few days ago and I keep having mine carts disappearing. I’m not sure how it’s happening but the farm is halted every time it happens.

I’m wondering how much lag would this cause in a realm/server setting if there is any?

Its always hard to say. Internet connections, device/PC processing speed, how Mojang is feeling that day, and what else is occurring in the realm/server all contribute. This might have zero impact compared to someone with 150 cows in a small fenced in area or a farm utilizing portals. 🙂

Can i use top slabs instead of glass? Im pretty sure they work the same in terms of not allowing stuff to spawn

the answer is no. Somehow it prevents ghasts from spawning on the platform that is 2 blocks UNDER the slabs. Wasted 2 hours of my life but it's fine.

After the wild update I seem to have a lot of skeletons and such spawning on the platform under the ghast conveyor. Anyone else having this issue? Still works amazing just have to like run out and back in every once in a while to reset the spawns. I defo got enough to not worry about it for a while after afking one night with it pre-update xD

Hey no hate but I think the amount of mine carts makes the game lag a bit more when the ghast spawns. It basically makes the game a bit slower

Since Bedrock Edition can not build on top of the Nether ceiling. I don't think so. Maybe it works for Java.

This is great farm but for low end devices or consoles would be nice to find a way to destroy the xp so it doesn't cripple the game with lag after a while. Gonna try and figure it out for myself tonight

@@majikwaffle9436 sticking a sculk catalyst 6 blocks over the top of a boat will cover the xp from that ghast and each one on either side. Its working great but I'm trying to figure out if the sculk build up on the glass is affecting the rates. Even if it was and covered it completely it wouldn't kill the farm but idk if its worth the rate drop and how ugly its making the farm lol. Hoping the sculk buildup stops at a point but I believe it never does so idk but it hasn't moved for a while in my test world gonna leave it for a bit and make some food

@@majikwaffle9436 if you're willing to do some rebuilding ( I am not ) you could move the trident killers up two or three blocks, add 2 hoppers at each spot and put a 4x4 of campfires on the hoppers, then suspend the boats in the same spot with a lead and a fence but above the campfires enough to not burn the boats. It works but its a lot of rebuilding for an already tough survival build and you likely have your spawn platform already in like me

@@majikwaffle9436 after testing it off and on tonight I'm almost positive that the spread of sculk will not affect the rates at all it appears to just be cosmetically unpleasant so the easiest way is using sculk catalysts

Hmm. 1. Make sure you are pushing them in the North direction, (negative Z direction). 2. Make sure the rails are activator rails. 3. Make sure the activator rails are powered.

Did this on switch, made sure to spawn proof everything 44 blocks away and still getting stuff spawning farther away. Did like 64 away and seemed to do the trick but is spawning different on bedrock switch? At the end of the video he got like 2 within a min but it took like 5 min for me to get one to spawn

Might just be while I'm building it they're spawning and shooting at me thus breaking the Minecart. If you wanna avoid this build all the rows you plan on building before building any spawn platform

The main platform should not be slabs. Be sure you're on simulation distance 4 and not be in peaceful mode. Also recheck the height of your glass blocks above the spawn platform.
