We really beefed things up with the 2020+ fobs and went with true metal accents after receiving feedback on the 2015 style from valuable customers like yourself!
Thanks for the discount code Matt! Got my new 2020 fob in and it works great! For those having issues programming in 99-07 truck/SUV, there are actually 2 ways to enter programming mode. In some vehicles, turning ignition on/off/on/off will result in locks cycling, but the truck wont actually program any fobs. You need to turn ignition from Run/Accessory/Run/Accessory. Locks will cycle, hold both buttons on fob down for 15 seconds, locks will cycle again. Turn ignition to Run, then off, truck will chirp to exit programming mode. This was done in my 2003 Silverado 2500HD.
@@Tia_kittygrrr do you use the factory fob or an aftermarket fob that came with the remote start kit? If it's factory fob, then the remote start kit is just looking for a lock pattern (usually either lock>unlock>lock like Matt's Tahoe, or lock x 3) and you can use any fob that will transmit to your Escalade, like these new style ones from Boost Auto. If this is the case, I highly suggest the 2020 style fob. I absolutely love it compared to the junky factory fobs our vehicles came with.
I want your Yukon. Mine is my only vehicle without a sunroof. We don't use ours enough to invest in the newer fobs (bought to pull a travel trailer) but my pleasure is in showing my wife that I can do some electronic things competently. I followed your instructions and it work like electronic magic..
@@mariahpotter2848 you don't, because that's not a later model. gmt800's still route starter relay power through the ignition, the "old school" way. Only tip-to-start or push-to-start vehicles have remote start capabilities from the factory, since the ECU sends a signal to the starter relay, not your ignition. Matt has an aftermarket kit installed in his Tahoe. You can find plug-n-play kits for 03+ online that just make you press the lock/unlock buttons in whatever pattern they chose.
I love this little upgrade idea! however i may be selling my 03 suburban some kid t boned me and was not insured. i got the truck nice and fixed up for cheap but the door they iinstalled just doesnt sit right and my wife wants a fuel efficient suv so i may be parting ways with my baby. I'll always stay subscribed so i can reminisce on when i had mine.
Stumbled upon the new T/A merch when I was ordering a couple hats and stickers last, you gotta show off the merch at the end of the video or something so people order them
Thanks for the update i ordered one of the fobs and seen the plastic on yours was beat up luckily i used to own a 2019 gmc and the metal sides snapped right on
What he neglected to mention is that you will need to purchase a programmer if you own a vehicle such as a 2013 Yukon or you won’t be able to program the fob to your vehicle. I understand most newer vehicles don’t require the use of a programmer so it’s a good idea to determine if your vehicle requires one.
The key of a 2010 silverdo has to be programing or just go to lock smith an make a copy because i had an 2003 cadillac escalade and just made copy and i didnt had to do anything just like a regular key copy
I have a 2020 Tahoe with 89000 original miles on her. I saw your first video for the older key fob and I got two. After a couple of months they both stopped working. I tired to re program them and for some reason the lock and unlock didn't work. The panic kept working. Got in touch with Boost and they sent me two new ones at no charge and they have been working good. Only thing is the range on them aren't so good for the lock and unlock but the panic button has great range. I might try the new style once these die. Thanks for you videos as i get a lot of info and how to do from them to keep my Tahoe running and looking good
Now you should see if you can get a retro fit power liftgate kit to work on this model. I'm looking at a 2017 retro fit liftgate for a terrain I'm thinking about doing.
Hey Matt! Thanks for the awesome content, as always. I was wondering if you’ve noticed any difference in the distance you can lock/unlock at compared to stock. I don’t get a lot of distance with the stock fob, and I’d be gung ho for this upgrade if it added a few feet. Thanks again!
Can confirm that the real 2015 and 2020 fobs will not work with older trucks. I did this when the 2015 fob came out and bought a real fob with chevy logo on it because it was 15 dollars cheaper and it would not pair. At that point I gave up and have been running the stock fobs until I saw this and just ordered a 2020 fob from boost auto and can't wait!
Just ordered an eBay one for $12. I bet it will work just fine. I've never had a problem with eBay key fobs working. I buy a lot of cars from auctions that don't have fobs.
OK so I just watched most of your video.... And I noticed you pressed Lock unlock lock.... For the remote start..... My 2011 Silverado factory key fob... Is that a feature I didn't know about.... Lock unlock remote start ????
I just purchased a 2009 Chevy Silverado LTZ and would love to upgrade from the fisher price fob. I'm curious if upgrading to the 2015 or 2020 models from Boost will increase my remote start range - or are these fobs a cosmetic upgrade only? Sorry if this has already been asked, I went through the comments and did not see this information but saw several people asking about this. Kenny
Also not sure if it's 2001 Tahoe specific but the panic button can't be pressed twice to turn it off. The key has to go in the ignition and start to disable.
I didn’t even know that disable panic function existed. I read this comment and thought maybe that’s my problem too on my 01 Burb but nope. I tested it and works. Weird that it doesn’t work for you
I’m definitely going to check that out. My old FOB won’t even hold a battery anymore. Definitely sick of using a key every time. It’s the only car I don’t have a fob for so I constantly lock the keys inside.
you can get a pair of aftermarket oem style fobs for $20 on ebay, that's the first thing i did for my 05 EXT when i bought it with only a spare key. never failed me
@@andrewmattera6205 I’d like to have the new fob showcased in the video. I actually have 3 cars that need their key fobs replaced, I kinda like the modernized ones he’s showing us.
It’s gives me three options when purchasing I wasn’t sure witch one to buy I wasn’t sure witch fcc id mine was it is a 2004 so I just went with a 2003 thru 2007 option hopefully it works
My 15ish fob has been holding up ok. It never goes in my pocket. I latch my keys to my belt loop or leave my keys in the truck. The problem I do have however is I always always accidentally set off the panic alarm
I had seen somewhere that you had to have a fob already to program another? Not sure how true that was but I picked one up from oreilly's since my '04 silverado didnt come with one and i could never get it to work.
I spent $13 for a 3 button flip key fob on eBay. The shift lever won’t let you shift out of park so I just use the normal key as usual. Looks better than the 2020 imo
I've been saying for ten years that someone should have come out with a newer looking style fob for older cars / trucks. Didn't realize someone had done it... Fkn A I didn't catch it if you mentioned, but... do these one's have any better of a transmit radio in them? Any better range?
Just ordered mine and am curious to find out as well. But I definitely think its worth it even if its the same range because of the nicer feeling buttons.
Too bad this wouldn't offer all the features for my 2011 suburban (remote start and power tailgate). My fisher price fobs are cracked a bit on the second set of housings since I got it.
Side note, I commented just before where you showed the remote start working😐 but it is a cool product and I’ll most likely pick one up and toss the old junk key fob
I have a 2008 Chevy Tahoe PPV. I bought the newer 2020 Boost Auto fob. For some reason, I can not get it to program. After holding down the unlock button on the door and turning the ignition twice, it won't do the unlock cycle throughout my vehicle. What do I do?
Wouldn’t added features be considered an upgrade? I don’t see the point in getting a new fob for just a different look. Also, there seems to be more steps to start up and shut off the vehicle. Factory fob to start is lock once and then hold down lock. To shut off, just hit the middle button once. Am I missing some special features with the new fob?
@@beckivan7039 If you just changed the case I don’t know why it wouldn’t. Shouldn’t even need to program it. If you bought a whole new key fob, it will need to be programmed. If you’re trying to program the newer style like in this video you need to buy the whole fob from boost auto parts. The Boost fob has a special chip inside that works with the older trucks.
I bought the previous model fob from boost auto parts after watching your previous video about it and it died after about a year. I haven't gotten around to checking the battery yet, the old fob needed a battery after 13 years so surprised this one failed so fast. I assume the battery is replaceable? Edit: finally watched boost auto parts video and popped the back off...found a cr2032 battery and she works again. Been putting the key in the door for a month. Wish the original battery lasted longer but other than that and cosmetic wear it's a good fob
it is, I have the same fob. Replaced the battery twice in the last year and a half. Theres a little space at the top back of the fob to fit a flathead in. Stick it in and twist and the back panel will pry off giving access.
@@lsxmatt Glad to have it working again. Battery was an easy replacement. One issue I have had is the panic is a bit too sensitive so I occasionally set it off with my keys in my pocket if I'm leaning against something while working.
yeah i wanted to do this for my 2010 colorado ever since your first video, however, I have to have the dealer program new fobs for my truck as you need the GM scan tool to do it. So dumb. If anyone knows of a way to program a newer fob for the 08-12 Colorado let me know :)
Boost auto parts has an install video on there website if that helps but I have a 2012 and it should work mine does. On my truck the button 1 up from the check mark press it to the very end or close to the end can't remember for sure and go to key or fob relearn then press check mark and program all your fobs just like in this video.
Its a compustar I got from bestbuy. I also have the drone mobile add on dongle that lets me remote start and lock/unlock from anywhere with my phone. I have an install video in my Tahoe playlist.
@@DANGER__ZONE_ it's literally in the video lol , just make sure you buy the right compatible fob and program it. Check to see if you can enter programming mode first and I'm sure you can
CODE DOES NOT WORK! really disappointed too since I always buy what @LSXMATT recommends, still bought it FULL PRICE, just a shame since it feels like you’re lying to us
The new key Strats the Z71?!? 💪💪💪 My Z71 is from 2002, will it work too? Ur the best Matt... if i would life in USA i am ur Neighbor💪😁 Best regards from Germany
@@mariodorder322 no the new fob won't give you remote start. His does because he installed a remote start kit wich plugs into the computer he has a video on this. None of the stock full size GM trucks from 99 to 07 had remote start it was introduced in late 07 with the new body style.
This video made me order one and I love it!! Price is a drop in the bucket to the small stuff that makes me love my truck. Small quality stuff like this makes your older vehicle feel not so old.
I have the first boost auto fob. After 7 months the chrome came off. I just bought some cheap eBay cases for the newer fob and swapped the chrome sides. That’s my only beef with it honestly. I like the 2020 style but $65 is too salty. I’ll wait for a sale.
Thanks for this video. I ordered the fob for my 2007 Silverado. It works great. I used your code to purchase. I left them a 5 star review but I did mention that they needed to give instructions with the fob. I had to come back to your vid to learn how to program it. Which is not a problem. Thanks again.
Yup I care, my stupid upgrade will be here tomorrow. Got the 2015 fob for my rust free 2002 Silverado 2500 HD from your first fob upgrade video. Price plus Pa. Sales tax was $51.98 from Boost Auto Parts….wish I would have been aware of the newer fob.
I asked my dealer about buying a new original fob. They wanted almost $500 for it including programming to the car. That´s a lot for that little plastic thing... I´m in Europe so it´s probably cheaper in the US but $64 sounds really good :)
Hi Matt, ive been going through your Trans Am build and I am putting my 83 back on the road after a long hibernation. I'm reisntating the air con as the pump had been removed but the bracketry for the pump is missing. Would your old 350 engine still have the compressor brackets and if so would you be willing to sell and ship them? I dont seem to be able to find the standard drivers side compressor bracketry anywhere. Thank you in advance
@@lsxmatt That would be fantastic. Thank you. I think its just the top curved bracket and the horse shoe piece that bolts to the front of the compressor.
Hey I know this is a GM video , but I was curious does this work if you wanted to upgrade a Chevy key fob from 2017 to 2022? And where would I go about that?
Anyone know if there is an upgraded replacement for a 2005 Silverado steering wheel? The leather is worn and I'd like to replace it. Most of the rest of the truck is in great shape. Thanks!
What is better about this key fob, other than the fact that it's fancy and beefier...?.. does the proximity work more, I find that my old key fob sucks and I can only lock or unlock the car from like 10 ft away, otherwise it just doesn't work
Does the vehicle have to have remote start built in previously in order for it to work without having the button on the remote? Or does the remote “automatically activate “ it , cause I have the same ole fisher price remote with just lock, unlock and panic like yours did
