I pulled mine out, it was ripped and I didn't salvage it; probably should have. I just ordered some 1/8 inch foam backed headliner which I'll use. I plan to weld nuts inside some of the grooves, and then make some big plastic washers of similar colour and use countersunk bolts to hold the headliner up, so the washers will be mostly flush. At the edges it will be held up as it goes into the side crevices under the roof. I will have three panels which will be removable, for the three compartments between the two roof arches. Plus some smaller panels to cover the side pieces at the top. And this also allows me to hang some things to the roof via the welded nuts which would normally be recessed, but could be sticking out by using longer bolts. It won't offer much insulation, only 1/8" so I'm not sure how loud it will be. I could always add sound deadening between if I need to since the panels will be removable. Anyways, that's one of my projects for the next few months as weather allows, we'll see how well reality matches my imaginary plans...

A bit of imagination and customisation can go a long way! One of the benefits of us reusing the old headliner is we can cut it up in future to access the gutters or hand various things. Good use of space!

As an ex subaru libery owner, I can confirm that the H6 engine is far superior

It definitely is a crazy big driveway build 😂 but that doesnt mean it’s not getting done!

Love the build on this fj62 but on the headliner insulation, I’m wondering why you didn’t use dynamat or boom mat for it? It’s cheap and you can get enough to insulate the roof, floors, doors, and quarters. Making it as quiet as a new car almost.

Honestly, dynamat probably would have been better but we couldn’t be bothered removing all the old fluff residue still stuck to the roof, and had this leftover from the floor. We have got some dynamat for the rest of the interior.

I am enjoying watching the rebuild. You could always repaint the headliner to freshen it up.

Nice, but I think I might have splashed out for a new headliner given the hassle of the job.

That definitely would’ve been ideal! But compromises had to happen somewhere to stay within budget unfortunately

@@NextStopTouringMine started with the factory horrendous beige, tried painting with that VHT trim paint, wasn't happy, then covered the entire thing in a decent quality black speaker felt, with high temp spray adhesive. Since doing mine, I've helped two mates, de-biege their interiors.

Nice work, as a side note for anyone doing this i was told by a upholsterer to transfer the bows from the old liner to same position on the new liner apparently makes a difference

I know who you are! Your Madeline McCain, just remain carm don’t let the Turk know we’re on to him, next video come up close to the camera and mouth the words (Tapas Bar) and I’ll deploy the boys! If you see a 79series trooper with a 2 inch lift kit, Kc light bar, stainless snorkel, rolling on 38s and bead lockers you’ll know, stand tidy wildcat

Are you not painting the interior?

We chose to not as a bit of a time and money compromise. Inside was actually in OK condition compared to outside though so everything that needed it got a few coats of etch primer.
