This was absolutely amazing. I'm finally taking the plunge and learning to airbrush after years of just brush painting. Thank you so much for making this incredibly useful video. You really helped take some of the apprehension out of learning a new technique :)
Nice tips iv just started Airbrushing and been trying to learn methods that speed things up and help, this video alone will make my Airbrushing life 100% more fun.
I knew about the backflow for mixing but never thought of pouring the leftover mixture back. Also, that tip for storing the airbrush without having to fully clean it is gold, thanks!
Great tutorial... You didn't rush anything... you explained in great detail... YOU are the Man!!! Thank you so much for sharing your great knowledge... from one teacher to another... ;)
There's how you're taught to do it, and there's how you do it so you get a good job done in a good time. You very generously gave us a shortcut to the real life technique. Much thanks and respect to you.
WRustyLane: I have two airbrushes--one cheapo Chinese Harbour Freight one and a Badger 155 Anthem. I like my Badger Anthem 155 better than the Chinese knock off. I found that the cheapo HF one can use the trigger and back rocker from my Badger 155 Anthem. So I ordered those two parts for the cheapo since I broke the trigger and bent the back rocker and put them into the cheapo. I modified the trigger a bit but took too much off the bottom of the trigger and found out that I needed to take some metal off the bottom of the inside hole where the needle goes through. Now I've got to get another Badger trigger to go in the cheapo. Trial and error.
Thank you for making this video...5 years later it's still helpful 🤗😀 I'm not an artist just want to try airbrushing with some of my projects for Halloween, Christmas and maybe some other crafts. This was Awesome for me,now I can go experiment with confidence and save this video 😆 Thanks again 😊❤👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for the tips. Will save me a lot of time cleaning between colors from now on. And especially liked how you stored the airbrush in the cleaner/water mug in the end. Will try that out!
OK I could have stopped at 4:00 and learned something new ,,using backflow to mix WHY didn't I think of that? At the end of the day the minute amount of paint dumped back versus dumping more on top and blowing it out makes a LOT of sense
Yo Dawg! Got my Eclipse tonight fing loving using your system, man it made it so simple. Something like base coats with highlights was taking me hours (not minatures). Knocked it out in 30 mins! ty bro seriously
I've been solidly an enamel painter for smaller scale stuff for years, but I married a Warmachine/Warhammer 40k player and I'm really starting to see how acrylics are the way to go for speed. Even if I could use these same techniques on enamels, I could NEVER keep my Iwata Eclipse so clean so easily. Not to mention I think it's a bit safer for you to inhale! Thanks for the vid; as I've started doing commission pieces now, any part of speeding up the process while keeping quality high is a serious bonus in my book!
Really helpful vid. I will definitely be adding those tricks to my airbrush routine. I have been using flow aid from the get go, just never thought to create a pocket of it in the bowl first --- I mix it with paint, then pour over. This is going to save so much time.
I just bought some merch form you single handled by this video. This is the best info I have found surfing info about airbrushing. Keep up the Great work!
not sure if I would call these airbrush hacks... Most of it is kinda messy and I wouldn't do it that way. But each their own, what works best for them. I like to do it more clean and precise :p
I'm just getting into my first ever Airbrushing tonight, this video helped a lot! Easy explanations but still addressing the core of it! Thanks, keep em coming!
Hey man just wanted to say your content has already helped me so much in the time I have gotten my air brush, you speak in lamens terms and don't give bullshit in your videos! Your techniques are easy to understand and turn out beautifully, thanks for the inspiration and keep making great gangsta painted models.
Thank you. I don't own an airbrush as I am afraid it will become another of those things that i buy , use for a bit, then it sits, but I really want to repaint some of my masterpiece collectibles using these methods.
this is probably the most amazing and best video I've seen so far. Just subscribed and I'll be checking out the rest of your videos since I'm looking to buy an airbrush soon. I wanna try something other than just brushes for painting figures and stuff. Now I just gotta figure out what model airbrush would be best for me to pick.
Solid tips and techniques, but tbh I wouldn't really call any of these "hacks". And these aren't exactly new or revolutionary, either. Doesn't diminish their usefulness one bit, though. Good stuff for beginners. But one thing I have disagree on is pouring thinned leftover paint back into the pot. That'll spoil the original paint in the pot sooner or later. To what degree the paint's characteristics will suffer depends on the brand and what they were thinned with, but mixing the thinned paint back in won't be improving them.
Good to know that I’m not the only one who leaves the AB in a cleaning glass after use. I have a tone of plastic beaker lab bottles and my AB lives in one.
wow u are probably the most helpfull person on yourube about air brush stuffs, like really other guys tell me things i already know and then u, well u have a bucket by your feet, "brilliant"👍
I really liked this video man! Ive only used the airbrush for a short while but this added new ways of basic utilities to my list. However I do have one thing to ask and that is how do you handle the smell of paint that airbrush creates from spraying paints and cleaner? I use it in a small 9x10 room and during the winter like now I dont have my window open to allow ventilation. Is there a good way to vent a inclosed space?
I have a question can you actually tell if the paint is thin enough to be sprayed by the way it percolates in the pot or the amount of Bubbles you're seeing? I think I just found out a hack on paint Viscosity. At 6:42 You can actually see how it doesn't bubble and then he adds some more water to it . Gonna try it out
Awesome video and advice, brand new to airbrushing and its a little intimidating so I am glad to get protips in such an easy and quick way. Thank you. Subbed!
Thanks for this. I have two cheap air brush guns. One I bought off Ebay for £10, and the other came free with my compressor. Do you think I should get a more expensive one like a iwata or some other brand, or do you think I can still get a decent enough job with cheap ones?
Should be noted leaving your airbrush soaking in airbrush cleaner or other solvents could potentially degrade the o-rings over time. Iwata airbrushes don't have them in the tip, though, so what you're doing is probably fine with them as long as you're not totally submersing them so it gets up into the body.
I just got my first airbrush. I love the tip about the cup of water especially as all the videos I have seen go over a really lengthy process for cleaning the damn thing. This might show my ignorance, but is there no worry about rusting? Also, is there a point that the water could go too high on the airbrush and damage anything? Like I assume water level should be below the plunger? Thanks so much for the video. :)
Hello dear artist!!! I have a problem with my iwata eclipse HP-CS 0.35mm, when i press down ONLY for air a small amount of paint comes out!!! The air cap and head assembly are well at their posisition, what can go wrong? My needle is not bend , only thing i can think of is about my nozzle but at a first glance seems to be ok and clean
i customize shoes and was wondering if the gangsta gumbo method would still work for leather shoes. I have to prep the shoes with acetone to get the previous finisher off so getting the paint to stay on and be flexible is key. Would the water interfer with it staying to the leather at all? thanks !
I need to get an airbrush so bad! Any recommendations of cheap starter air brush set ups (brush, compressor, etc?) I'll be jumping in your patreon supporters in June!
Iwata HP-CS and badger compressor. Home depot/walmart carry pressure gauges with flow control on the cheap. If you're not into spending huge on compressors, look for used and some stores carry them cheap since they're hard to move.
