I Love this!!! As a kind of novice these look so easy but professional looking. I suffer from a traumatic brain injury and so I had to find something I could do. So I am now sewing blankets for children in the cancer hospital near me as well as for foster children, also for animals in no kill shelters, and for elderly people in nursing homes. It’s a way for me to do something good for our community and the recipients love them. I don’t charge for them but I am setting up a 501c3 as well as a way to collect donations in the future. Your blankets, bibs, and hats are precious. Thank you for sharing your passion. ❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕👶👶🐶🐶👵👴

Thankyou I have been wanting to make some more bandana bibs for my 6 month old. They aren’t really made for eating but they work great for spit up and drool bibs. I have some with fleece on the back which is a great choice for the back fabric because it is absorbent and soft

Love this video! I'll be making booties and hats, to be sure. I've been making double-sided flannel baby blankets - with a hood in one corner - for decades! I use 1 1/2 yard of flannel. Square all sides, then put right sides together, match all sides. Then, turn up a corner on both fabrics about 16" - 18". Mark the angle with fabric marker, or just iron a crease. Cut a large 90 degree triangle (16" - 18"on the short side) out of each flannel fabric. Sew triangle right sides together leaving an opening to turn. Clip corners. Iron, then top stitch triangle. Place triangle in a corner of the larger pieces of flannel. Pin in place. Stitch around entire blanket, leaving room to turn. Back stitch at points of triangle to reinforce. Clip corners to reduce bulk. Turn, iron, top stitch. Top stitch another row 1/2" from first row. Helps to keep edges from rolling. Use the leftover flannel from cutting the triangle pieces for burp cloths, bandannas, bibs, etc. Makes a blanket large enough to wrap a toddler, and the hood makes a nice way to keep baby's head warm.

I honestly do not know what people’s obsession with making baby booties are. Yes they are cute but speaking as a mom of five they are pretty much useless. They do not stay on the feet socks work better. Knit hats are good though especially for newborns

I have made many baby quilts 34 inch by 40 inch. I make them so you can have two quilts in one by sewing around the edge. I quilt on my machine, either by sewing around the animal or birds or by making meandering squares. It is easy and really loved by Moms. I take a picture of each one before wrapping them up.

I’m fairly new to sewing, using videos like these to learn! I had watched a few burp cloth tutorials before I found yours. I made the hour glass shaped ones. It’s interesting how many ways they can be made (flannel, cotton, 2 pieces of fabric, or 3, batting, interfacing, terry cloth, quilted or not quilted! I’m sure there are more, I will keep practicing and find the one I like best. Oh, about the glue. I heard Elmers Glue was good for sewing so I bought some of the glue sticks, did I get the wrong thing or can you use any Elmer’s glue?? Thanks for the video, fun projects!

Thank you for such great videos and instructions. Question: I have a Brother SE600 and make weighted blankets so I use a walking foot regularly. I was told that I should not back stitch with the walking foot but I see you are doing it with no problems. My machine has an option that it does 3 fixed stitches rather than doing a backstitch. I just wonder if that is as effective as a backstitch.

Loved this video. Haven’t sewed in twenty years and watching this made me want to sew! I made the blanket for my niece who’s having a baby. It came out so adorable. I do have a concern though. Since there is a batting between the material, should it be tacked down or sewn down periodically to avoid breakdown of the batting after washing? Thanks so much for your thorough instructions.

You certainly can add some quilting or any other touches you'd like. I've made this blanket quite a few times and haven't personally had issues with the batting, but it's up to you.

I've been watching A LOT of baby youtubes, but no one ever says if one should wash their fabrics first and/or how to do that!!!! First time baby project sewer (I do quilts, but don't wash fabrics first) I'm going to be a brand new Nana in November 2020 & I'd love to get these projects done correctly. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated - also, is there an easy way of washing the fabric so it doesn't fray or shred in machine? TIA love these videos
@SewingReport
@SewingReport 4 года назад
My general rule is prewash wash any fabric if you plan to launder the finished item. Knit fabrics don’t fray so you’re good there. The only fabric I don’t prewash is when making a quilt, it’s difficult to wash precuts like fat quarters or charm squares. With woven fabric that frays I will often serge the raw edges or cut with pinking shears.

@SewingReport
@SewingReport 4 года назад
Quite honestly, with quilting cotton prints many are limited runs and can be hard to find after they've been out for a while. I try to sew from my stash most of the time, so the fabrics are *not* new. Listing them wouldn't do much good because they're likely not available anymore. If it helps, I did a video about coordinating fabrics. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RjnmucDuTK0.html

And, for the burp cloth, is it worth adding a waterproof layer in between? Thank you for any advice... totally newbie sewist here!
@SewingReport

You do need to use knit fabric for the booties, I don't think quilting cotton would work with the construction method. Burp cloth, I suppose you could add a layer but haven't tried that.

You can back stitch with a walking foot? Why have I always thought you couldn’t? Or shouldn’t? I loves me a good back stitch instead of the little knot stitch I’ve been using 😳

I made the baby blanket wish you could post pics here I love it so much. There was only one problem I can't seem to stitch in a straight line😣. I don't know why😔 even when I draw a line it still crooked. Do you have any tips for me?

Mark out your lines with an air/water soluble pen and do your best to sew directly on the line. I do this all the time for quilting!

What is the sewing foot your using? Will it make things easier?

Do you know where you bought your lotus pond fabric? Can’t seem to find it any where. Thank you.

It is an out-of-print fabric so probably hard to find now unfortunately

These are lovely. I would love to make them, but the download site is extremely hard to use. I can’t find measuring on any of them. It maybe free but you have to be able to use the free download. Your video was wonderful. Enjoyed every minute of it. It’s the follow up that’s annoying.

Where did you get your large cutting ruler from?

For the baby blanket, did you prewash the fabric? And if you made it bigger, would it need to be quilted? Thank you!

In this instance, I did not prewash my fabric and it seemed okay but generally it is recommended to pre-wash cotton / natural fibers. Adding quilting is something you can do if you make a larger size.

Just found your channel and I can't wait to try these projects! What kind of ruler do you use in the baby blanket project to square up your fabric?
