Laura Balisky and the incomparable Easy Boy compete in the extremely difficult Shell Cup Derby at Spruce Meadows.
Less than 20 clear rounds had ever been accomplished in all of the Derby's years of existence (circa 1995). The primary reason for this is the famous "Devil's Dyke": an enclosed sloping triple-combination + liverpool, that few riders prior have ever made it through without racking up at least 4 faults. And if that isn't bad enough, the treacherous Red Planks (2:36 into the clip) at jump #16 will come down with the ~slightest~ touch, and usually claimed anyone brazen enough to survive the Devil's Dyke!
Laura and Easy Boy successfully navigate this grueling course, until... well, watch and see ;)
For more of Easy Boy and Laura, check out their spectacular clear round in what was the world's richest and most difficult grand prix of them all, the du Maurier Limited International:

I agree with you, i'm only 19 and already have muscle problems and have had to go to physio and chiro just to help me stay in the saddle, but I've never had a break. It pays the rent, and i've had to stop going to physio and chiro because I can't afford it. It's tremendous pain staying the saddle, but I do it anyway.

@Fall0utAtTheDisco Wow, nice observation... he's got hunter-knees in that snapshot! ;)

For a while... they ended up third. Eric Lamaze & Cagney were the eventual winners, with Beth Underhill & Monopoly in 2nd. Both were clear. I'll probably post their rounds as well :)

...well, considering that they were sufficient to bring her to the Olympics, as well as win the North American championship, multiple FEI-level Grands Prix, and triple clear rounds in the world's richest grand prix of that era-- I'd say, probably so.

@Agilitypoodle385 I only saw her use the whip two, maybe 3 times. Only at the end, when he was dieing out a little bit, and needed a reminder. I hate using the whip or over using it, but she made it this far, she wasnt gonna lose cuz her horse was sluggish that day. She did the right things

Correct.

...did you, um, *watch* the video? LOL He went clean (in a competition that had seen less than 20 clear rounds in 20yrs), only to pull the very last fence. That'd pretty much the definition of heartbreak, despite the facts that he was both very young, and eventually the third place (good money!) finisher.

@equistera ...but that's predicated on the assumption that one could AFFORD to take such a break though. When riding horses pays your bills--- if you're not riding, guess what else isn't happening?

The international height limit for Grands Prix is 1.60meters (5feet 3inches). Puissance and 6-Bar however, do not have height limits.

Indeed, they were quite the team... proven when they captured the North American championship.

Is there a height limit for jumping like this or is that just for racing. Just wondering, cuz I thought I might want to do jumping like this (someday lol) but my grandma thinks that the height limit applies to all types of riding competitions. And I think he did a great job, despite that last fence, considering he's had so many injuries. :)

...what part of that is not being understood?

@ImmortalSynn Ok - thats a few more than i saw, but its not too much - it was necessary

is that good or bad?
@ImmortalSynn

...neither. Just an observation.

if you have that much damage to your body you should take a break....although i give her credit

"There is no reason to be a complete ass about it." Nor is there any reason to be whiny and hyper-sensitive about it. If my goal was to offend you, I'm prettttttty sure I could do a far better job than simply asking if you'd watched a video or not, lol.
