it's optional. I never had toast that was sweet so it feels weird when I eat French toast or toast with sugar like here. if you like salty or savoury foods like me in the morning, just butter is ok
I tried that. it doesn't toast evenly, and for some reason is way more messy, and burns quicker in the pan. I thought I was dumb hence why I had to look up how to make toast. so it's better to put the butter on the bread first. if it helps, I don't soften my butter. I have a thin or softer type in my fridge, and kinda force it to mush and with a little effort it spreads good. but my butter is in those tubs. the blocks of butter are a pain and way harder, and you will have to put in more effort to soften it. melted butter just isn't the same as softened butter in my experience

Step 1. Get butter out of fridge Step 2. Put bread in toaster Step 3. Put butter on bread Tip, You don't have to mess around for 5 minutes melting butter because it's going on something hot that melts it. TOP TIP, why are you adding sugar to toast bruv does it look like a cake bruv
