Ive become pretty good at using Angelus paints on Jordans but one thing i learned the hard way is to stay away from the toe box. ill paint ANY other part but everytime i paint the toebox, expecially from dark to white, it starts to chip and peel because of the constant flex. i know angelus is flexible, but not that flexible and yes i did it right. i cleaned, prepped with deglazer, then painted flat white, multiple thin coats to avoid streaks and finally sealed it all in all with Angelus products. so what am i missing here?

I’ve actually only done one other toe box before and it was on my royal custom. Had no chipping and wore them a ton. I do wear shoe shields, maybe that helped 🤷🏽‍♂️. Sound like you did everything thing right tho.

I think the new Jordan 1 Mid Chicago 'White Heel' would be easier? and has red outsole too. That we won't have a problem about toebox chip and peeling? I wonder what Red Angelus paint should we use to match the red? I have both black toe and white heel and Im still debating which one to custom.

they look great ! a old school painting trick for painting over deep tones is go with a gray color / light med dark what suits the next color , its like in automotive body work the primer is gray for that reason to save from painting several coats , same rule for house interiors if your trying to cover a dark red/blue ect those colors are so rich and deep , it can save you 3 coats in the end and $ especially for car and house paint

Gotta do some duller and mix with finisher or the paint. Takes out gloss. I can’t think of the paint, but could buy at michael’s it’s a white flexible acrylic paint. Think it has FX in it. The white is so much whiter than angelus and identical to factory white you see on Js

Haven’t picked these up though but I took time off the sneaker game so I missed on any Chicago colorway’s that were high in the past 6-8 years in everything but the 13s. Now I’m my size you’re lucky to find a defected pair for $600. I got the banned mids and painted the panels and like u said after all expenses including the shoe u may pay $150 at best. Thanks for the video.. wel your banned one cuz it got me thinking just buy mids and paint them

question: i had this same idea but copped the mid chicago 2020 with the back part white...basically having to color the white into red and getting the red sole with it as a bonus. which angelus red wil match the red on the kicks? is it straight varsity or do i gotta do x% of one red and x% of another red (or another color altogether) and how do i make give them a matte finish as sometimes they look glossy in other customs ive seen? thank you for your time. great job btw.

Varsity mixed with regular red. More on the varsity side though.

Yt vids are out on this. 70/30 varsity red to fire red. Use some duller in paint and in final matte coats. Two coats matte. 7 or so red coats.

Ha! Bought these to do the same exact custom myself. Only quest I have is, your telling me that the use of Krylom Matte Finish will cause the paint to crack faster as opposed to leaving them with just the painted finish? And I guess I do have a second question? Why not use a primer color as a first coat such as a pink or even a gray to minimize your amount of different painted coats? Your thoughts would be great! Loved the finished outcome!

So I'm late but only bc it took me this long to get actual leather paint but this was always the plan and today I was able to do one of the shoes but yes it's pretty easy but fun and if you want that chicago look definitely worth it

Whoa those look dope as hell. Good job! Just one question tho... How is the creasing? With 6-7 coats of paint, that is most likely going to crease and possibly break ultimately revealing the black color underneath yes?

I have started customizing yet but have ordered some of the materials and done a decent amount of research lol. I think multiple light coats combined with a finishing clear coat of some kind helps prevent that. And water damage. Etc. but idk though even though I got the stuff in the mail I’m still researching before I start potentially fucking up sone nice shoes.

I did mine like this and pint cracked. I wore them first to break them in hoping they would crease and then I painted them but they still cracked. Did same prep as you. I’ll try to touch up and hit in between the cracks again an hit it with the sealant again

@@bsneakz_ nah they kept cracking where the crease was when I walked. Maybe crease protector would help. But I’m gone try white heels an do custom on those. That way the back won’t mess up like the front

I like how this pair turned out but there’s another pair of “Chicago” mids that have dropped recently and the only thing that sets them off from the OG is the white heel. Definitely looking forward to custom them. Do you know what could be a good mixture of reds that can look as factory as possible?

Those new Chicago mids have another thing - they come with a RED outsole. So it makes it an even harder decision, sort of. Style code is: 554724-173

I Don’t know if I recommend doing this Jordan 1s crease like crazy. That paint is going crack where the crease starts.

I tried this custom on this exact same sneaker and mine cracked. I don't recommend it unless there's a different method out there. i used Angelus flat white.

Is the varsity red paint the actual color of the red on the shoe? I'm looking to customize the new Jordan 1 Mid Chicagos that came out with the white heel. Don't know if it's the same color or I have to mix colors to get it. Would appreciate a response or maybe a video from you on that.
