I’m not one to look at, let alone venture into the RU-vid comments section very often, but I thought I’d share something that has been rolling around in my brain lately. I’m a hobbiest woodworker. I had a very brief stint in trying to sell things officially and realized I didn’t want to make my hobby into my job. I admire anyone who does, it’s a lot of work. I also watch a fair bit of woodworking and CNC RU-vid. And am often annoyed at how basically every video (particularly CNC videos) are about how much money you can make from it. “We sold this table for $6000!!!” “I make $10k a month by CNCing this one thing millions of times!!!” It can be rather off putting to someone who isn’t trying to make a business out of it. HOWEVER - I have found myself incredibly appreciative of the way that you break down the costs and pricing of your creations. It is refreshingly honest and chill and informative and is really, really welcome rest amid all the nonsense. It’s so easy for us to undervalue our work, our time, and it’s nice when someone reminds you what you’re worth. Thank you, Hamilton. This whole moth has been delightful. Keep it up.

I agree with your sentiments about valuing one’s worth. Except I think Hamilton under values the majority of the items he making in this video series. He said he’s got about 20 bucks in materials for this project and would sell in person for 30 dollars. That’s 10 bucks in his pocket for file design/tool path creation, picking up lumber, cutting it down to size, CNC cut time, router, sanding and finishing, marketing by making a post, time communicating w/ potential customers, travel time to meet them etc. Plus machine and bits wear and tear, shop supplies, electricity. It’s just not worth 10 dollars of “profit”. At that price point, for all his labor I think he’s losing money.

wow!! Thanks so much for that! I watch a ton of youtube and the channels that I like the most are the ones that are on the more "chill" side of things. So I really appreciate you saying that!!

A message for your Onefinity sponsor. I currently have an MPCNC and was looking hard at buying a Shapeoko for my next. After watching all of this channels videos I have decided a Onefinity machine would be a much better option.

Great point on kid safety. One reason I never even bother thinking of venturing there, yet you make it seem effortless.

The satisfaction levels are off the chart with this video. Even without the magnets it just has that crisp click in, but the magnets is a genius addition

I love this but my mom brain went to little kids swallowing the little magnet. It definitely is a great idea but we would have to be sure it isn’t going to come out once it is glued in. It looks like you made a tight fit so that’s a plus. I love this idea though!

Hi! Just bought your mega-pack and have a question on the bit you used for the name. Looks like a 1/2" 90 degree. Is it the V90 GrooVee Jenny? How deep do you cut lettering?
@HamiltonDilbeck
@HamiltonDilbeck Год назад
Hey! Yep, I used the 90 degree GrooVee Jenny for that. Not sure on the exact depth, Carveco Maker+ auto assigns the depth depeneding on the width of the lettering as well as the thickness of the material being used.

I'm a very noviceCNC-er, but could you just cut out the outline of the handle hole on the knife and the circle on the cutting board instead of carving away the whole things and save a bunch of time? just toss the cutouts when they're done?

How deep do you set your personalization carving or the v bit designs to cut?

I didn't really set a depth, it just adjusted based on the size of the text

Love the idea and the execution. However, earth magnets are not toys and should not be in children's toys where the magnets could be removed or fall out. Don't risk it leave the magnets out.
@homezero
@homezero 2 года назад
I'm confused as to why you had to make a whole new knife when all you had to do is add a magnet and personalize it?

For the video to show the difference between the two.
