A Toddler Hat or Toddler beanie are one of my favourite things to crochet. When people ask me how to crochet a toddler hat, I always show them an easy way for beginners on how to crochet a beanie hat. In this easy tutorial for beginners you will learn to make this amazing toddler hat / toddler beanie.
This beanie is made for a toddler, but You can make it in all sizes. Just do the brim longer to fit the head You are making a beanie for.
It is a pretty easy pattern, only a 1 row repeat, and we will only use single crochet and double crochet. I recommend that You have tried single crochet and double crochet before, but if You havent, You can still follow.
This video tutorial shows you how to crochet this easy hat step by step. You can follow the tutorial even if You are a beginner. I will go forward very slowly and explain everything I´m doing.

- Yarn: 100% Acrylic. Medium weight 4 (I used 200 yds)

If my toddlers head measures 20.5 inches, is 17 inches for the brim too short?

No I dont think so. It streatches a bit and I hate when I do the brim to big.

I am having the hardest time connecting my rows to make them even. I always end up with a triangle shaped bump and the beanie looks longer on one side than the other. I have tried doing this three times now and end up so gosh dang frustrated. I wish it was shown how to connect a couple more rows as you are going up the beanie.

Suggestion: Use a light colored yarn when trying to teach on a video. It is very hard to see stitches on dark color.

Typical head size at eight months is 17 1⁄2 inches (44.5 cm) in circumference; by one year, it's 18 inches (46 cm). So just do the brim a little bit shorter than that so it is able to stretch a little :-)

I agree with may who indicate this is a nice tutorial but, when demonstrating, you should use a lighter-colored yarn, as the dark blue was very difficult to see what you were referring to. Hearing an instruction is fine but seeing it is much better, in my opinion.

This is very nice but i have been rewinding and watching over and over but the dark yarn is just too difficult to see and I am straining my eyes too much. Do you think you will ever make another tutorial for toddler hats are would be easier to watch. Thank you🙂

You do a great job explaining what you are doing however a tutorial on dark yarn is very frustrating. I won’t recommend this video to anyone trying to learn by watching a video.
