Excellent video, very detailed! The reason for not removing the oil level indication stick while adding oil, is apparently the oil will flow out of the indication stick hole if not in place, and causing the oil to drip into the alternator and possibly destroying or causing premature failure on some models. That was how it was explained to me. Thanks for sharing, was very helpful , and I Subscribed!
Really liked the idea of turning the wheels to the right for access. Others I see are pulling the wheel off which is a real hassle and with that, opens up some safety issues while crawling around under the vehicle if it's not properly supported.
Anytime you buy Japanese and plan on maintaining yourself, order your self a box of vinyl push pins that are for the make and model or universal, and most cone with clip removal tool. It pays itself after a few routine maintenance procedures. They dry rot and get weathered/hardened and rarely remove and reinstall properly. You want to reinstall tightly and properly, as the shields are an integral splash guard and part of the wind channeling and also very expensive to replace for what they are. Vinyl pushpin kits are easily available on amazon
The oil dipstick does not have a separate tube into the pan (like most vehicles). Instead it's ported through the head and having oil poured in with the stick out, can allow oil to "backflow" out of the hole. You'll notice that if you check the oil right after a change, that a significant amount will be on the stick. You need to let it drain / drip down a bit longer before checking to get an accurate / easier read.
Great video thanks the advice on reset and lowering the interval was very good … also learned about the location of oil pan and filter didn’t know about all the clips..cheers..
Yes, I got the basic model and was thinking about adding fog lights, an upgraded stereo and a power lift gate. Not too happy with the oil filter location.
Great. Great video. I own the SL. My wife just had to have a 2020. It has 21k. Thanks for walking us through the oil change. I also saw you video for cabin air filter. Horrible design. I find the car to be noisy. Any suggestions on dampening to reduce road noise. As it is. I just turn up the music, but I think the car could be quieter. Thank in advance
Hey, thanks for your question. What size are your rims and tires? I find the ones with the 20 inch rims are noisy. I have the 18 inch with the fat tires and the car is very quiet.
Dumb question but where you did place the jack stand and lift exactly on the passenger side? Are they right next to each other or is the hydraulic lift touching a different piece? I wish I could see it from the bottom view.
Thanks for the vid. However I am having the dealer change my oil. My question is how or what do I look for in terms of assuring that the dealer did quality work?
Just make sure to ask them if they are changing the filter. Believe it or not most Dealerships ( especially Honda) does not change the oil filter. Check the oil level after and make sure its correct
If under warranty, stick with the recommended. It's more a formality for optimal gas mileage. As the vehicle breaks in the and mileage increases, you may notice oil needs to be topped off more often and then considered a higher viscosity.
