I've been making these for a couple of years I'm sure from your design, I'm glad you made a video because I wasn't getting the 2x4 fence before, Now I see it I get it. and I never noticed the trees were 2" taller each size.

I love that you’ve been making these! I feel like we made the plans a couple years ago... but it was back in 2014! Time flies! I don’t think the plans on the blog are 2 inches taller, that is what we just chose to do! Happy building! And thank you SO much for your comment!!

I love this, it would be perfect to display the ornaments I will be selling next weekend at a craft sale. I'm going to have to see it I can figure out cutting those angles. It looks tricky! Lol. Mine doesn't have to be perfect, just has to work! Lol

Yes!! These are perfect for a sale! Because they really are fast!! You can totally figure out the 50 degree angle! Good luck at your sale!!

So when you add the 2x4 cut at a 45 degree angle did you position the mitre saw 5 degrees in the direction of the 2x4 or the opposite? Your film skipped that subtle change so I’m unsure which direction the 5 degree was added in regards to the 45 degree 2x4

In the direction of the 2x4.

Thank you so much! Loved making this! I followed your tutorial for the 1/8” rods to hang ornaments! Loved this, was able to get my cuts pretty close but that’s due to my chop saw not your measurements 👍🏼 and learned how to make difficult angular cuts thank you two❣️

When you make a rough cut prior to cutting the 50* angle, are you cutting to length?
@Remodelaholic

I don’t think so.

I purchased the workbook/plans, but it didn't have the dimensions for the LARGE tree. Can you give the angles & dimensions for that one?

I am confused, when you say a 20 degree angle, are you saying a 20 , or are you saying 20 on the saw meaning 70 , cause when you use your 2X4 and place it 5 degrees towards the 45 wouldn't that make it 40 degrees cause the saw will go to 50 degrees.

Robert thanks for asking. So when I place the board against the fence I turned the blade 20 degrees then cut it. Then if your saw can angle to 50 degrees thats even better than having to use the 2x4. Hope that helps.

Hey Robert, I was talking to Justin about this because I didn’t understand his explanation either. Basically what he saying if your saw is at 90° (right in the center- set for a square cut) some saws can only go to the right or the left 45° and it doesn’t allow for a sharper cut. Because the final piece you need is 40° angle - you need to be able to move your saw to 50° but if your saw doesn’t allow for that sharper cut then you need the jig and you need to make that your 0° point and go over 50° in order for you to be left with a 40° cut. It’s really hard to explain this without an image, have you visited the blog post to see the drawn out versions? .... All of this to say you might not have a problem if your saw allows you to cut more than 45° for example ours does allow us to cut to 55° you will have no need for the jig... So if your saw allows you to cut that sharp of an angle you are good to go ahead and cut it normally. If you miter saw is more limited in range, that is why you would need the jig.
