Great, I really enjoyed it because I didn't have to listen to someone chatter on about everything. You really simplified the process. Thank you!

I found a round bowl like the one in this video at the craft store ($9.99). I'm hoping to make a terrarium for my mom's birthday. If it works I'm going to do small ones for everyone at Christmas. I also got a tall square one that I want to plant a type of grass in. Thanks for the tips.

Just a suggestion, as opposed to large pebbles, use gravel in the bottom. It will take up much less room.

Thnx for sharing...but it's easier to use a fork, thin stick, plastic utensils to adjust plants @ or anything else used to design. Our hands r just too bulky for these lovely, small containers. Try it...you'll like it.

Depends on the plants that you want to do as bonsai, as well as if you will be enclosing the terrarium or leaving it open.

Did you bake your soil before adding it? I keep getting massive amounts of mold in mine, and a friend told me to bake the soil first...
@giddyupworkshop4684
@giddyupworkshop4684 7 лет назад
Wow, no I've never done that. If it's open like this one then you really shouldn't have a problem, if anything cut down your watering. If it's a closed terrarium definitely cut down watering and make sure it's out of sunlight.

does the container have to be curved? ive seen people make them in things like a candle jar
@giddyupworkshop4684
@giddyupworkshop4684 9 лет назад
BrianaLynn7 No, the container doesn't have to be curved. The bowls just look nice. :) Feel free to use a straight-sided glass.
@BrianaLynn7
@BrianaLynn7 9 лет назад
okay thanks!
@jessebetsill6765
@jessebetsill6765 8 лет назад
+BrianaLynn7 If you plan on having a top, almost all closed terrariums are round bowls. If you don't want a true terrarium with it's own ecosystem, then, go for it and have any shape.

Hi what are the plants called. do they stay that size or will it out grow the vase?
@giddyupworkshop4684
@giddyupworkshop4684 9 лет назад
The Curry Garden Hello, I don't know what the names of the plants are as I just picked them up at my local garden centre. Depending on the conditions (moisture, light, etc.) they may grow big enough to come out of the bowl, which can look really cool. If you want them to stay smaller you can simply trim them back.

should i water it? if so, how many times in a day or week?
@giddyupworkshop4684
@giddyupworkshop4684 8 лет назад
+Edwin De la Cruz Yes, these do need to be watered similar to regular plants. You can see through the glass when the soil is saturated so you don't over-water. Covered terrariums don't need to be watered near as often.
@Sunwell03
@Sunwell03 8 лет назад
so.... when should i water them ? likfe a rough estimate?
@giddyupworkshop4684
@giddyupworkshop4684 8 лет назад
Give a good watering right away, then just keep an eye on the soil to see when it's feeling dry. As the plants mature you may need to water more frequently - so much depends on the conditions in your home.

how do you water them
@pershop4950
@pershop4950 3 года назад
use a spray bottle and spray into the glass container, covering leaves or soil with the sprays of water. if you do leaves, just make sure they don't get any trouble with leaves staying too wet all the time.

What's the point of cleaning the bowl and stones?
@matnojje
@matnojje 8 лет назад
I don't know but i guess you get rid of thing like fungus and pests. Also the bowl wont be as pretty if its dirty.
@emmez93
@emmez93 8 лет назад
Mathias Eriksson : Hmm, maybe that's it. The bowl is prettier if cleaned, but it did look okey to me before it got put into the dishwasher as well as after. ^^ Still don't see the point of cleaning the stones though, they are going to get dirty anyway by the soil. Does fungus and pests even live on stones?
@matnojje
@matnojje 8 лет назад
I think some does. Lichen for example grows on rocks. But it's composite organism with algae bacteria living among fungus.
@emmez93
@emmez93 8 лет назад
Yeah Lichen is pretty common on outside rock that is out in the open air. Though it doesn't seem to grow on rocks inside, that is kept for decoration. Not as I have experienced at least. ^^ Maybe the bacteria will grow on those stones if not cleaned, because they get soaked in water, that would make sense I suppose.
@matnojje
@matnojje 8 лет назад
emmez93 I know very lite of plants and Botany to be honest. I have one plant in my apartment that i got from a friend and i don't know what it is. I only know that it immortal because it still lives.

@pershop4950

many people are scared of doing that but in fact, plants can recover from minor tears of stems, branches, roots, etc and a lot of times, with some TLC, they can recover from major disasters as well.
