This type of water with my fiberglass 3wt is without a doubt my favorite kind of fishing. Being in Colorado its usually the only way to get away from the crowds, amazing content as always guys.
It's wonderful to have a certain water you love to fish and using such a lightweight rod making the process of catching that much more enjoyable. Thanks for watching and sharing your appreciation:)
I love watching you catch giant fish, but I loved watching you have fun catching normal fish like the rest of us. Your beautiful cinematography should get anyone excited to go throw some dries on mountain creeks.
Hello Dave and Amelia. Always enjoy your small creek cutthroat videos and this was another great one!! Epic scenery and weather!! Enjoyed it! and always learning!! Thanks for sharing!!
Those little cutthroat streams up in the Crowsnest and Castle watersheds are so much fun from August until October! Only danger is that after a great day on one of them, I'm at risk of thinking I've actually got this whole "catching trout" thing pretty well figured out...
Great Video! Always love watching you guys. Small stream fishing is usually my style. Beatles last weekend was a hit for me! got me some nice size cuties. I have to thank you guys for all your advise and tips, it’s helped me a lot through my fly fishing journey :). I live in Alberta, maybe someday I’ll run into both of you on the water :)Tight Lines to both of you 🇨🇦🤙🏾
Aren't these the great places in life :) Streams and creeks and just poking a beetle into those slots and lies is just plain fun when working those cutts. Browns too, though slightly done differently. :) If you see us be sure to say hi :) Hope the back 1/2 of your season is good to you
My wife and I usually fish that kind of water with a 7’6” three weight rod and a five weight line. Don’t need to cast far but it’s nice to load the rod early for those short casts. Plus the three weight rod doesn’t launch those little fish into outer space incase you set a little hard. Such fun summer fishing! Great video guys!
They are wonderful little creeks. A 0 wt would launch a 10" trout on 3x so there's no real rule to the trout orbiting club :) But the big reason we used a 4wt is our rule in what we share: we don't want to exclude people from thinking they can't fish these creeks with a 4, 5 or 6 weight, that you have to go out and buy another rod and spend lots of $$$ when the idea is to just go out and have fun with the rod you have! :)
Our flows got cut to a trickle for a lot of June, and only just got bumped to an ideal level last week in the south Platte and I have spent the last few weeks/months on the headwater creeks and alpine lakes. I’ve learned a bunch!
How fun! I just fished the upper section of Soda Butte creek in Yellowstone. It was very similar fishing. I had a blast doing just what you’re doing! 😍
I think I remember seeing photos of you there. I actually recognized the area from a filming gig we did for Hubbard's Lodge a few years back where we did a little fishing on that one. Pretty stream. Glad you had fun!
haha! I made a comment before I watched Amelia react the same way I mentioned in the comment! She didn't want to mess with the little one! Those fish seem to be in every pocket! No wonder you guys are laughing so much.
You get it! They were everywhere and it just didn't seem fair to set the hook into every one. It was a bit of a "dinks are us" fest!!🤣 But lots of fun and what a gorgeous spot.
That's like 0 - 3wt territory. I only fish streams like those, but that's all we have access to. So a 3wt is considered on the "heavy" side, only used if wind blows, else it's 1 or 2wt's
Yessir it is. We shared using a 4wt because of our rule in sharing content: we never want people to feel excluded from opportunity and by using a 4 wt we simply are sharing that if people have a 4, 5 or 6wt they can fish here and just have fun. The central idea to all our videos is to get people out, to use the rod they have and just enjoy time on the water without the need to "have to" buy more gear :)
:) Wow. Neat to hear from you! That one I had to just look up on Google Maps as well as watch a quick RU-vid video or two of the brown trout fishing there. Neat looking high country :)
Soooo... my guess is British Columbia. Nice little stream. Video is just like a good day on a Shenandoah National Park Mountain Stream. ... except you catch brook trout ... sizes very similar ... rock is different ... water flow and appearance is almost identical! Yes, we still see days when you pull your fly away from the 4 and 5 inch fish so you don't waste time unhooking them. HOWEVER! I want to catch those cutthroats! What beautiful fish! And cooperative! Thank you for sharing!
A net could actually cause far more damage to small fish - from their incessant flipping and tangling in the net causing longer periods out of the water and rubbing/ abrasion issues. There's zero chance any of these fish were hurt or damaged. Sorry.
@@jensenflyfishing I’m sorry but this sounds silly to me. I use a net to keep them in the water and give them a breath periodically. For me the jumpy ones are big fish. The only part I agree with is the skin gets a bit roughed up if they are jumping so over. I’m sure from what you said you treat the fish well. That’s all I ask for.
@@quantummandavid all good. You might look into the net discussion a wee but more with small, wiggly fish and time how long a fish is being handled/out if the water etc with a net vs without. You might be surprised at what size a net is beneficial vs not, all considered. All the best!
