I love this idea and it's a great way to break the preciousness of a brand-new sketchbook. I often break-in a new sketchbook with swatching or mixing exercises.
I always skip the first 3-6 pages depending on how many pages are in the sketchbook … then I have room to come back when it’s not ‘new’ anymore… 🤔 Hmmm, I wonder if that means I never really ‘start a new sketchbook’ ? 😂
I love these exercises you make- as a someone who suffers from executive dysfunction, sometimes I’m paralyzed by all the do’s and dont’s. This allows me to remember why I like paint - colours, texture, looks :)
I really like your style of teaching. It’s so low pressure and comfy but informative. It’s very “do what you want, but this is how” and I appreciate it a lot!
Thank you so much- I've been drawing in pencil since I can remember (pretty good if I may say so), but I hear constantly that most graphite artists grasp color once they start painting, and I've always wanted to expand into color, but never felt confident enough to spend on the supplies, got gifted some and well your videos make me feel like I could actually use em if not maybe get good, thanks :) huge inspiration of mine right now you are, love all the color schemes you use
to break the illusion of preciousness in my sketchbooks, I flip through them and admire their clean beauty, and then I throw them down some stairs and rough them up a little 😂
My dog chewed on my favorite sketch book, and actually, at first, I was mad, but now I'm really happy that she did that. It adds character, and it really makes me explore more into my artistic abilities. Because I'm not scared of ruining it. Because I don't have stairs. 😅
Do you order sketchbooks online? Wow. I just got to Michael's and got a five dollar one. Any recommendations that I should try? (I use markers sometimes, but mostly pencil and black liners, I don't do blending often and go for a medium-sized sketchbook most of the time. If you do respond, I think that is important information for recommendations.)
@@Waffles2009 yeah I wanted special mixed media paper so I bought one from the brand Ohuhu! In my country they don’t really sell “medium budget” sketchbooks in stores
Thank you…ive really wanted to started water painting and you have the best exercises. Plus i do this with my grandchildren who are becoming amazing artist.
Oh this one looks like fun. And I just happen to be flying out a week from today with my grandson for his birthday. We’re going to go visit my daughter and her wife. They are his favorite aunties lol. And now I will have something to look forward to during our flights. And then I can come home and paint about what I saw. Thank you for sharing such a sweet idea! I absolutely love this one! 💚💛💚
you have a very calming mr rogers/bob ross energy and i love it. also, as someone who is in absolute love with the way fields look from way up in the sky i will for sure be doing this exercise in my sketchbook 😊
I find it fun that you use both sides of a sketchbook for one longer picture. You don't overthink it, you just do it. So much prettier, more to admire. I always do mine only on one half of the page (front or back, right or left) but not both. I'm going to try that. More and more, i wanna be like you 😅
@@RebelUnicornCrafts thanks a lot! Saved the whole playlist. Yesterday i created a mini sketchbook + a junk journal from shopping bag to play with. Now I have ideas to fill it with🫡🙆♀️😃
Hi there - I'm dabbling in watercolor lately. I enjoy watching your videos and you are so down to earth (that was satire regarding this post😉🤣). Could you please recommend some decent sketchbooks for watercolor, like the one you are using in this video? There are so many to choose from and i literally get confused by all that's out there.
This is such an amazing video. Could you please tell me where you got the tiny sketch book and the brand of it. Also where is that special slanted paintbrush? What brand is it and what is the term for that kind of paintbrush.
So love this idea. But if you want to know what I do for the inside Of my sketchbook is I do have characters and like a world so what I do is I draw a map of said world and it helps with building the world a little bit better and it helps because when I'm drawing like architecture and stuff. Obviously, this isn't gonna work for everyone. But it works very particularly for me. Is I just putting the world map onto the inside and outside of my covers? It's kind of like how authors do it. And it's generally because I spend all my time in my sketch books. Not necessarily just drawing things but drawing and planning out the characters. In my storybook, you don't have to do that. That's just what I do. If you really need more ideas. 😅
Did you just say buy a new sketchbook so we can do this exercise and break it in? Well okay NEW SKETCHNOOK IT IS!! Lol I love the size of this one and I love the exercise ♡
Sketchbook with thicker pages, they won't warp as they dry. If you have a local art supply, you'll have better luck finding watercolor friendly sketchbooks there than at Michaels or Hobby Lobby
my art teacher told me that if you page is too wiggly, you have to wet the other side as well, your page will still be a bit wiggly, but is will be less than it was before. so if you don't have the best watercolour paper, you can try this
theres this one brand of sketchbook that i got for my last one, it was 12AUD (so like 6-8 usd or smth) and it was my absolute favourite for almost all mediums but markers, i think next time ill get anothwr one bc its so good
