SOLVED: Whirlpool Dishwasher Washing Cycle Loud Noise Easy Fix - Removed Random Debris - Model DU945PWSB0
I removed various pieces of trash from the bottom of the filter that had fallen into the grinder area. The rocks, glass, and pieces of plastic were getting ground up and making a terribly loud noise when the washing cycle was running.

You are a lifesaver. If not for this tip I would've needed to wait who knows how long for the landlord to get it fixed. Thanks a million

What size and type wrench undo the bolt in the center?
@huynguyen5706

Thanks for the video. I was able to do all the steps, with power tools, so 5 minutes disassembly and reassembly. Cleaning the bottom of all the debris did help with the noises, so for now it's fixed.

Thanks for the upload. Came home last night, wife something wrong with dishwasher. Look for 45 minutes to find you with the same one. Thanks again. 👍

Thank you so much for this video. I have the exact same model dishwasher which was not draining. I was able to fix it after watching your video. The middle black disc was little different to open(just like some folks said earlier) but it worked well with your video.

If we can’t get the quarter inch screw off which is holding down the black piece, what do you think we should do.
@mchenrykramer
@mchenrykramer Год назад
I think I had to keep the black impeller from spinning. I may have put a wrench on it just to hold it still to loosen the screw in the middle. Please check some of the other comments, others have the same issue with the center screw.

I have a hooked pick tool, like for removing seals. I was able to get under the edge of the black part and grab underneath. Then I was able to undo the 1/4 inch bolt with a cordless impact gun. Had to use an adapter to get the small socket on the impact gun.

hi. i did what your video said to do. it worked perfectly. ty so much for that. weeks later now i have a new problem… it used to wash normally. now it would wash but in like 10 seconds it would stop. would delay for a minute or 2. then wash again for 10 seconds and thats become the norm. and now its leaking on the bottom too
@mchenrykramer
@mchenrykramer 10 месяцев назад
That is a puzzler. The leaking is suspicious. Does it also fill in between that time? There is a sensor that detects water and if it is leaking that could cause it to stop. Or maybe something is in there interfering with that water sensor. It's hard to tell without watching it run. If it was me, I would try all of the different modes and settings to see if you get any different results.

Have the same dishwasher, does it have a filter to clean ?
@mchenrykramer
@mchenrykramer 8 месяцев назад
I didn't find a filter. I think the intent is kind of the opposite of a filter. It is designed to grind up the food until it can go down the drain, like a garbage disposal. That way, there is no filter to clog or clean.

How did you take out the bolt @2:54? Mine is spinning (the black round piece) and not letting me to take it out. TIA!
@mchenrykramer
@mchenrykramer Год назад
I think I used the crescent wrench to keep it from spinning. If you are doing that already, the bolt may be stripped, and you should be able to turn it counterclockwise while lifting the black round piece. If it comes out that way, you'll need some Lok-tite or something to keep the bolt from spinning when you put it back. Seems like the black piece might have functioned as an impeller.

I quit using Whirlpool. I just finished placing my five year old Whirlpool dishwasher on the curb after 3+ repairs (both boards and water leaks). Repairs are high between year 2 and year 5. I am now using LG until Whirlpool (also sold under multiple names like kitchen-aide) fixes their reliability problems so that their dishwashers provide higher reliability between years 2 and 5. As with most newer appliances, the kitchen appliance industry is struggling with circuit board designs and are still learning how to make circuit boards that are water proof and last 10 years (durable goods requirement) without failures resulting from aging components like capacitors. Of course, the appliance industry redefined durable goods as 10 years of reliability on a few mechanical parts only. In reality, durable goods applies to the entire unit. Like cars, loss of market share will sooner or later result in an effort to remedy the reliability issues. First, they need to hire engineers that now how to specify the electronic components properly (i.e. military grade) source control specifications.

Hi - I stumbled on your video while trying to determine if my model DU930PWSB0 has a filter that needs cleaning. The owners manual, which I found online and is a shared/common manual for both of our models, identifies the large central assembly as the "POWER CLEAN Filter Module", but makes no mention of periodic cleaning/emptying. Based on your video, I'm pretty sure that central assembly grinds up and discharges any food scraps with the discharge water at the end of a cycle? Does that match your understanding?

Thanks for posting I have been looking for one similar to my Kenmore 665 15 51791 - I am having trouble with the black disc - removing the bolt it just spins even if I hold the large plastic nut on the disc... 🤔

You skipped the part where you removed the bolt from the black round piece. How did you remove it? I’m having trouble getting mine out
@mchenrykramer

I think it put a wrench on the center of the impeller, the round black wheel looking piece. Others in the comments described what they had to do when they had trouble removing it.

It's been a while now, but I seem to remember just holding that black impeller to keep it from turning in order to get the screw out. Sorry, this fixed my issue so I only had to take it apart once.
