Easy Fixes! DTC P1259, P1491, P1456, P0420 - Honda Accord 305,000 miles 

A common issue with the Egr setup on the f23a motors is the Egr valley at intake manifold gets clogged very easily. I found that a small cheap flexible drain cleaning brush and some sea foam top engine cleaner down both valleys does a great job at clearing the blockage without having to take the top off the air intake manifold. If that fails mistake the top off of the manifold and clear it with a screwdriver

Thanks for showing paper work showing possible reasons for codes. I have a basic code reader and last year had P1456. I have 98 accord v6 (6th generation 98-02). I replaced the purge valve but not whole canister as they are separate parts. Could still smell fuel and still got code. I did see fuel drip when on a hill so I dropped the rear axle to access fuel tank and had tank refurbished for $150. They sandblast it and then line it inside and out. About 2 months after I could finally afford to fill the tank full and could smell gas. I don't see a leak but seems to only happen when tank is full and I have the p1456 code back. I hate to have to drop rear axle again. Spoke with place I had tank refurbished and they say no way it could be tank as they do a pressure test before tank leaves. However they did say could be plastic component on top of tank is cracked. I only know of 2. The 1st is where the fuel pump which has access thru trunk. I looked and don't see any issues. The other which I cannot see has evap tube connections. Any thoughts? Thanks

Replaced EGR valve + gasket and it fixed p1491. Now on to fix the squealing sound my car makes when I turn it on lol

Ahh the dreaded p0420 exactly what I'm stuck with my 1999 accord exv6 and p0740, I was told try cataclean as a last option

Ill make your life easier in the future working on hondas with egr valves. Clean the injectors & egr ports & along with throtle body .. you must remove all of these to do so..could have bad valve due to the year. Updates were made on these models, during that era. EGR ports is usually the case .

Shes on the road now stick is fun only 380 000 many more to come rebuilt the engine bottom end was pretty good top end not so much fixed all that and many more sweet car lots of fun

Ive built a 01 accord that was going to be scrapped with many many miles it was a challenge but many repairs later shes all good

Thanks.... and laughing at myself : daugher's car is letting oil go like one quarter a week and I didn't even consider it was the problem because we had been pushing our luck out by just adding the minimum ... I had now to put 2 quarters, reset the codes, and the car finally started... a rough start but it smoothed out and I could drive to my usual repair shop.

I have a 2002 accord with 237k miles and I got code p1456 I bought a new fuel cap… Do I have to delete the code for the check engine light to go away or will it go away after being driven for a bit?

Ok. So for the p1456. Evap emissions code. I got a new gas cap. But it still pops up. I did clear it. So I know the problem is still present. Any recommendations man? Really really stumped on this one
