Easy Gold Chrome Effect - Nice Results !! 

Gold chrome is easy been doing it for years. I use GSW Chrome then 1:1 Tamiya clear orange and clear yellow over the chrome. You really have to balance the orange and yellow otherwise the chrome looks too yellow like yours does.

Tequila Yellow by Createx Candy O, spray that over chrome and it's as close to a gold necklace as I've ever experienced. I use it for doing model car kit trims and wheels. There's also a video of a guy using it to spray over chrome car door handle turning them mirror gold. Try it out

Now try clear yellow over powdered graphite to get the ultimate plated gold look. Do this. Spray a spoon with high gloss white enamel paint. Then dust with powdered graphite. Polish it off with a rag. Finally spray on clear yellow. Blows all these fake golds out of the water. Way cheaper too.

I love these slightly matte chromes. They look like chrome but arent mirrors that just screws up photography etc, yet they are convincing.

Hey Robert. Another great video. I purchased your swallowtail a couple of weeks ago and it is amazing. I have been airbrushing for about six months now and have been using a couple of budget airbrushes. I thought they were fine. But after using the new swallowtail I realized the budget airbrushes was like driving a car with a V8 engine that was only running on 6 cylinders. The swallowtail is like a V8 engine running on all 8 cylinders. Just better all around. I was particularly interested in the fan cap since I paint car models. I have tested the fan cap but haven't painted a car with it yet. For info though. When I used the swallowtail for the first time, right out of the box, the first stage was not working. In other words, it went right to spraying air and paint. Couldn't get just air first. I contacted Gaahleri and described the problem they determined it was the needle chucking guide. There is a collar on the needle chucking guide that had slipped out of place. They sent me a replacement right out and it fixed the problem. They said that problem is unusual and most likely caused from rough shipping. Just wanted to let your viewers know encase they run encounter the same issue.

If you want to get a very glossy shine, with the chrome...give it a shot top coating them with a UV clear resin. You will have to thin the UV resin as well. But once it cures, it will be like glass on the Molotow.

Great video as always, thanks! A thought for your future video... It would be interesting if you could get a piece 24K gold leaf sheet and adhere it to a spoon to use as a true base gold color, for comparison against the different vendors gold paint tones to see what one actually matches.

Looks great, but I still think I prefer gold chrome nail powder on top of barely tacky gloss black as my go-to gold. But it’s great to have options and fun to try all these for different looks.

I didn't think about trying it like you did but you're right your version looks even better than what I got. Oh, I also forgot to mention that I used the metallic thinner from Mr. Color but I'm not sure if that would make much if any difference.

interesting. So far, I've been using the nearest hand-brush equivalent by taking the pigment out of my old tin of Humbrol Authentic brass, letting it dry, and soaking it with acetone and brushing that over Humbrol Authentic A6 silver. That works somewhat, but its more a natural metal finish than I polished one. Hope when I finally get an spray gun (I decided on an Iwata LPH-80) that I can get more of that polished look.

I wonder what would happen if you mixed a clear yellow/orange in with the thinned down molotow and then sprayed that. It would be a huge time saver to do just one layer. You should also try painting metallics over a black base. I have always found the metals looked deeper over a black base

I love that gold color and it be great for model kits like the Dinobots and also the Black Luster soldier which I have yet to buy but I need to soon.

Try to use gaias regular bright gild im pretty sure it has way smaller gold flakes. But if you trying to experiment this way. Try modo paints heaven gold and ancient gold andddd even try gaianotes ex gold.

I saw a couple brands of chrome paints from a vendor named Hobbynutmodels. Under their “search” function, I typed “paint.” The results included “AK Interactive Xtreme Metal Paint” with 25 different chrome paints at $11.99 a bottle. They have a black base that the various chromes are sprayed upon, and a special cleaner. Includes colors such as gold, copper, even metallics like metallic smoke or burnt metal. Also saw a single chrome called “AK Interactive super chrome system” at $26.99. Another set, a six bottle set, came up, named “Green Stuff World Chrome Paints,” at $33.95 for the set. All are meant for airbrush. They all look really good in the photos, but would like to see you give them a real world test. I don’t know if you can find these paints elsewhere as I haven’t done a search for them, but those are the brand names.

Would like to see tips for black chrome, or reviews of black chrome paint (if there is any).

I wonder what it would look like if a 2k gloss was put over the silver befor the gold. I also wonder if it would be worth trying to use a glossy grey for chrome insted of black. I'v got some old toys I'd like to restore and want to try to match that toy chrome look.

I'd also suggest the Krylon gold leafing pen. Very nice results with it

Glossy chrome is really the only way that I rely on to get the plated look.

I stumbled on a good mix by mistake. I spray Tamiya titanium gold, then cover with Tamiya clear orange. I'm very happy with the results.

New subscriber and I really like these painting videos. I have been waiting for these gold videos since I saw the recent chrome pen video. I hear you say the chrome dulls when you apply clear on top of it. Can you show examples in the up coming videos with clear on top of the chromes and on top of the golds? Is it possible to spray a 2k clear on top of any of these or will it eat the paint below? Which clears can you use on these paints that add durability to something that gets handled a lot. I don’t want the chrome or gold to rub off.

e7 has a few new chrome paints out now. S-05 chrome black, s-03 chrome green gold and s-04 chrome red gold.

Alclad Chrome with the Alclad candy paints. Slightly hazy but I can see myself in it.

This "gold" (brass) chrome looks great. The Testors Gold enamel I have didn't look good for what I had in mind. Maybe with this, I could revisit that project.

you should try Armored Komodo's Candy Chrome Gold... Its a clear you paint on top of their Supra Chrome

Ive been trying to find a good metallic yellow, but after buying Gaia star bright brass, primary yellow metallic, and super metallic yellow Mr. Color I was disappointed that they were all a bit green.

Great video! I was wondering, though…. Quite some time ago you posted a video of a suggestion another viewer gave you of thinning down a silver by a huge, almost unbelievable, factor then spraying it over gloss black. It gave you a great “chrome” finish. Have you tried, or thought of trying, doing the same thing but with the gold paints? Perhaps the same technique would give a gold chrome effect. I believe the paint you used in that video was a Mr. Color paint.

I still prefer black primer, alclad gloss, odenkan ms-01, odenkan TCG series, mr color smoke clear and acrylic top coat. I know it's a long process but I can sell plastic watches at a park.

That color looks a lot like the MG Hyaku Shiki.

I have been using acrylic clear gesso with mica powder for my metal effects I don't like the alcohol base stuff 😐

Try a 2k clear over that to see what hapoens.

These final results look just like jumpwind prime metal Brilliant Gold sprayed straight on plastic.... It's super shiny but not quite chrome reflective. Not sure I see the value in the layering over Molotow

So, if your piece isn't white like the spoon should you first prime it with a glossy white? Also, the chrome marker has a 30ml refill bottle for $30 that is a better deal as the pens only hold 7ml for $11. It has a nice screw on lid which makes it easier to access.

Just FYI Molotow is a European style spelling of Molotov, they're both pronounced the same way

I'm not a fan of the brass, it looks less like plated gold and more like... well just polished brass. i think for a few of these you sprayed a bit too much of the brass

Hello, I know this is a whole different video but I needed to let you guys know, that not only does Tamiya Laquer paint works as a great base for spaz stix chrome , but today I found out that the small jar of Testors gloss black enamel paint works phenomenal, the clarity is also better. It's worth trying guys. Thanks
