The BEST way to prevent crashing.....grab that CLUTCH. Think of the clutch as a panic switch....a temporary On/Off switch. Trust me....you NEED to train your left hand to Squeeze immediately.....Because as a new rider, your gut reaction is to YANK the throttle, Trust me.....you will catch yourself doing it......if you squeeze the Clutch first, the Throttle element is taken Out......you don't crash....you just steer and Brake.
many thanks , i needed that , meron bang ,segunda mana , honda or kawasaki , for sale , pls tx or call us asap , docs.google.com/document/d/1LI9Qms7tZWqe6xQn_rvU-YLBo9X6cBk3FPs5INlos8o/edit#heading=h.odjqpq68cmry
Well, in fairness, he doesn't know too much about braking a motorcycle in the first place... Listen carefully to what he says from about @1:00. Using the front brake 70% of the time and the rear brake 30% of the time? WTF? With video's about braking like that, you don't need broken brakes.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this video! Really helped me get the hang of taking off. I stalled so many times when I first hopped on the bike before watching this video. I got on it today and took off without any problems. I am a first time rider..obviously. Here's to other first time riders! Thanks again.
Best channel for beginners to learn how to ride. He gives a small amount of information in each video so he doesn't overwhelm the newbie. Must say thats a wonderful teaching strategy.
@@theyoutubeguy1 what does him riding a low displacement bike have to do with whether or not he knows what hes talking about? pretty much everything he's said are the same things you learn in an official MSF course.
I'm looking to get back on a bike after a 35 year gap! I still miss my 1976 kawasaki z650 and that bike buzz. I'm sure when I do get back on the road I will enjoy it. Watching these excellent videos I haven't forgotten too much.
+Super Poptropican *closer look a profile picture* woa what are you doing here also? lmao jk. with that speed you don't need to learn how to ride a motorcycle (You probably wouldn't have enough money in the bank account after that purchase lmao)
This is the first video i watched 5 years ago to learn about the motorcycle basics .. ninja 650 2014 was my 1st bike .. now i own gsxr 750 .. cheers up man :)
If you guys would it have been my Math teacher, I would it have been an astronaut by now haha. Thanks for the video. Wish you guys safety out there, and to all of those that learned the basics with this video. Warm regards from Costa Rica dudes
+fabian mora Every time i see someone with impeccable grammar and orthography, i just know they can't be english or USA citizens. Saludos desde Argentina!
+Joaking saludos caballero!
My parents have bought me a CBR 150 but I didn't even know how to ride it 😂 thanks for teaching me the basics, at least I'll know where to start. Subbed !
ppl are hating because you dont have any gear on and didnt say anything about wearing gear and i get it but in regards to the mechanics of 1st gear and getting it rolling this video is really helpful for beginners so thank you...
Well I would definitely like to emphasize not starting on a supersport 600cc bike, for the exact reason of throttle control that you had a problem with. See, with a 250r or 650r, that mistake would have been a minor slip-up compared to what you experienced with your bike... but congratulations on keeping it upright.
Sorry for the mistake! What he meant to say was the front brake supplies around 70% stopping power and the rear brake gives about 30%. Meaning the front brakes will stop the bike a lot faster.
Awesome video man. Taking a safety course that starts tomorrow so I'm trying to learn as much as I can before the course. I've never ridden a bike. This video made me a bit more confident in myself. Again, awesome video for us beginners!
For the most part it seems just like a manual transmission car, just the gear shifting in a different. Really cool to learn the basics on how to ride a manual bike. Been somewhat interested in these types of bikes since I was little.
Please, if you want to learn how to ride a motorcycle, take a Basic Riders Course. Not only will you then know all that is wrong with this video, but you will also make life a lot safer for your self and everybody else that you will share the road with.
+Petr Novak True. this video is more of a supplementary kind. people don't just search videos on RU-vid and start learning driving. they will come here out of curiosity after having ridden the bike at least once.
I am turning 16 next month and will be getting my license. How long does it take to get comfortable riding a bike? Is it like riding a bicycle? But with an engine?...
Comfortable, depends on the person. But once you feel comfortable, that's when in my opinion, it becomes a bit more dangerous. It's easy to get yourself in to a situation that you don't want to be in because you want to open the throttle and feel the full power of your bike :)
BoneJunkie holy crap yet. This guy gets it... listen to him. Happened to me. Got comfy and went for a lane split. I quickly realized I didn't want to be there anymore when a car closed the gap. Ass hole... i Forgot everything I knew about riding.. nothing happened but it felt too close for me. You always need to be on your toes bro.
i've only ever road around a car park but I thought it would be similar to a bike but it feels different, you can feel the power, even your leg positions are different and honestly its like nothing else
May be a stupid question, I don't know. But why is neutral in between 1st and 2nd and not at the bottom? I assume it is like this for all/majority of bikes...
Dhito Putranto thanks buddy! I originally thought it might be due to some technical reason but there is a video by DodgeRider that explains it in some detail I think.
Thanks to your friend for mentioning the whiskey throttle... pay attention new riders! That is exactly what I did I crashed andbroke my big toe.. was out of work over 2 months... just getting used to going on bike again... I flew across a lot hit a curb and the bike was stuck on top of me...
Good job guys. I like how you focused on the controls and even though its obvious the person giving the presentation is experienced...you covered the very basic stuff.
Yup! These guys, though well intended, are not proper teachers and certainly not professionals. For example I heard the rider state to use the rear breake "30% of the TIME, and the front brake 70% of the TIME"...this is completely misleading. Of course most will know he meant the fronts perform 70% of the braking while the rears provide 30%. That's not the same meaning as what was stated and new learner will misunderstand. When learning how to drive any motor vehicle, they always recommend getting professional teachers because friends & family will only pass on their bad habits to the learner, putting them at risk as well as other road users.
RU-vid wasn't in existence when i had to learn how to ride a bike first and my biggest challenge was getting the bike in motion from first gear and getting the clutch release right.
I'm really grateful of where they position the clutch on most bikes. People have a natural reflex to tense up and grip things tight like a clutch whenever there body senses there in danger. That Honda 600 engine scared the shit out of me when I accidentally slipped the throttle to like 7000 RPM's and at the same time that intimidation factor made me not let go of the clutch! I agree about not starting off with a high powered bike but it's all my sisters got, i'll def be more careful next time!
Haha... thanks Nochill I got that but don't believe in "non rude" insults (kind of an oxymoron). I was questioning him to make him feel dumb. Dumb for commenting on someone else's video. A video that took some degree of time and effort to make for the educational benefit of others. Judging by his avatar the guy should close his mouth and not be so quick to criticize others when he isn't offering anything better (for the benefit of others).
Really, your supposedly teaching how to ride a bike while wearing shots and a t-shirt with just sneakers on? What happened to wearing protective gear and talking about that?
Peter Ballantine natural selection if you dont realise that you should be wearing protective gear when riding a completly exposed motorised vehicle for the first time then youre not really smart enough to live in this world
Because of riding his bike 5 mph? If he falls it would be called "dropping the bike" instead of "crashing the bike". Not even my driving school instructor was wearing a helmet when he explained that stuff to me...go to a monastery
My friend offered for me to use his bike to practice once I get the written test done but I’m so scared that either I crash and damage his bike or I crash and get hurt myself. Thanks for making this video to slowly introduce people to it.
I guess they you never learned how to wear the proper gear when riding. You just want to recommend to your viewers to attend the MSF course, there they will learn from qualified instructor who teach by example. You also are giving poor instruction about neutral, leave instruction to those who are qualified because you are clearly not.
I think they said they were covering this in a later video. You don't go to neutral. You push up on the gear lever with your toe. The bike goes smoothly through neutral and into second. Then you release the lever. When you need third you push it up again and get third. Again release the lever. Each higher gear is the same. To go down gears just push the lever down. Once for each gear. Until you get to first. When stopped in first, a gentle push up gets neutral.
Liked this review best one yet. Thank you. Wearing gloves helmet gear is all an obvious common sense so I wanted a video that would demonstrate the actual shift of gear and how the foot works so this video went straight into riding which was what i wanted, tha k you guys.
I like how your videos are detailed and you show how to do it a few times. All other videos is either just explaining and not showing or showing how to do it but not detailed and it's rushed. Great video. I feel a little more confident now. Subscribed!
Looking to get a bike in the next two years and get my license prior with alot of pratice and coaching. Interesting how you gear a motorcycle. Much simplier to me than a car.
Pro tip. The kill switch isn't just for emergencies only. U can turn the bike off with that and it won't hurt it in any way. The manual just says that because if people use the kill switch they might forget to turn the key off and it will drain the battery. If you don't believe me search motorcycle magazine kill switch and he explains it better
I use my rear brake 90% of the time. I believe you meant to say that you get 70% of your braking power from the front brake, and 30% from the rear. However, you use them whenever you want, just be careful. Basically, if you give the rear and the front the same amount of pressure, you’re gonna fly forwards and do a stoppy. So no, you don’t USE it 70 and 30, you get 70% of your stopping force from it. You can use them whenever and however you want, just be mindful of how much pressure you use. I only use the front brake when I absolutely need to. The rest of the time, I’ll rev match and engine brake, then use the rear brake to stop completely. Nonetheless, the rest of the video was pretty good. However, you’re teaching people how to ride without wearing any gear. Be a good role model
Very clear and assumes NOTHING is already known. Good for beginner like me. "Give it gas" is said often, and I think he means give it some Throttle, and let up on clutch a bit (right?). No gas peddle, so the Clutch + throttle are sort of the GAS PEDDLE?
The video is very good, helped me a lot. My Z800 will arrive soon and im a noob so is im catching all videos possible on internet cause i know i will have to use 15% of her power about 500 miles first before i could use more of it. Thanks again.
For those who are looking at this for learning purposes, use all your fingers on your levers, and use both breaks all the time but use front break to do more of the work. Also the sweet spot he is referring to is the friction zone. I hope that helped some of you.
I tried to ride for the first time this weekend and sure enough...whiskey throttle 😞 haha but I'm going to try it till I get it down. Thank you for tips!
This dude is a better instructor then the one provided by the DOL. I did fine until the test. So, i went I bought a bike and practice and practice and practice on my pace and went in for the second time to test and passed. You have to be relax and comfortable with the bike before you considering getting a permit. Cuz they sux at training you.
if you let the clutch go with no throttle you will stall in first. you always roll on throttle as you let out clutch in any gear but most important when starting to move.
This video was used in my English class for practicing listening B1, I wanted to let you know because I thought it was funny that they use actual normal video's instead of fake scripted ones :)
