A bookbinder once told me that he goes to Goodwill and buys old men's striped shirts. The older ones have smaller stipes that are perfect for that. Lots of headbands for little cost. I had forgotten about that until I saw yours. Great idea with the calico! THANK YOU !!

Of course, I am so crazy that I thought you were making a headband to wear out of a book. This was so much more interesting!!!😜😜😜

I thought she was going to use actual headbands as closures for journals. 🤣

Oh......!! Now I get it. I wondered what exactly a headband was and you explained how they were historically made and how to make them now. Thank you!

I really love your videos. Even if it's about something I'll probably never do...like this.😊 But, ya never know.😏 You are so good about explaining the 'why' you do a certain thing. It really helps me retain the info. I have often used your tips & techniques in various other ways than what's in the video. Thank you, though, for explaining the various components of book making. It seems a lost art. I hope you're doing well, and feeling even better. Much love and take good care.💚💚💚

In my opinion headbands also avoid dust getting between the textblock and the back...

AAAAAAAGGGGGGG! You are never going to believe this. Yesterday I tried to rebind my Bible. I decided to use the method used for the beginners 4x4 book. I thought it might work well when rebinding a Big Mumma of a book. It mostly went well, but I saw these ratty end pieces that contained the ribbon. I especially wanted to add loads of ribbon and wanted to but or make these thingynebobbies but couldn't look them up because I had no idea what they were called. In the end I just glued the ribbons under two small strips of plain bookcloth... then today up pops this video. This is definitely yet another thing in my life to file under "Sod's Law" 🤣

This is excellent Nik - thanks so much I had been admiring your tiny leather books that you showed us and was wondering how you managed to do the bands on such small books.
@burrowscarol
@burrowscarol 2 года назад
I’ve had success using glue on the entire strip, folding over and securing the entire band. The wet glue allows me to to use the bone folder to push the cord into the fold nicely and also secure the rest of the fabric, similar to glueing book cloth to the book board. Then I cut the length as needed. It doesn’t take long to dry. I also do this using paper scraps. It looks great!

Excellent video! Another way to put that stitching around the top is to use your sewing machine and zig zag off the outside edge like an overlock stitch. I'm getting ready to refurbish a very old book that I love and will be using this headband tute as part of the process. Thank you again...
