Happy Thanksgiving! A third option for the stitch pattern you have chosen would be to elongate or shorten it in the middle of every repeat to fit the row count. Ahhh, the marvels of knitting.

This is perfect for recreating a hat my grandma made me years ago that got eaten by moths... she did not remember anymore which pattern she used, if any, so I have set myself the challenge of doing it myself and writing it up...

I didn't mention this in the video, but for my traveling twisted sts hat, I used ktbl and k2togtbl for the crown of the pink hat, since the rest of the knits in the hat were ktbl.

Thank you for taking the mystery out of hat crowns. I never understood how to improvise a crown on a hat before. This gives me the freedom to make up my own hats. I’ll be interested in your other types of hat crowns as well.

Hello there, you have been very busy and I'm pleased that you have shown me your recipe for these. My Brother lives in Central Otago and they have some pretty epic frosts and snowfalls. He works on a Cherry Orchard and goes through lots of hats which his elder sister, me, knits. This looks to be an interesting way to work these. Happy Thanksgiving, Safe travel and take care.

Thank you so much for your videos. I’m always learning. Usually I am running two weeks behind in watching, and I just watched the video from two weeks ago where you asked for suggestions on future videos. I am completing an intarsia sweater for my great grandson called the Digger. My outcome is okay, but I know I can do better. I was talking to some fellow knitters and a few of us had some same questions concerning intarsia. This sweater is a good example. So I thought I would throw this out and see if you would consider talking about this topic. Thanks again for all of your Tips and Techniques.

Amazing! I love these series. I'm learning so much. I also have a request when you have time. I've noticed there are very few videos on how to knitchener stitch in color patterns. Maybe it would be a good subject to dive into. I think once you understand how to kitchener st two pieces of fabric together it may be easy enogu, but you explain things so well...For instance: I'm knitting a toddler sweather but I didn't like the middle parte once blocked. So I cut it off instead of ripping the whole thing out. Now I'm reknitting the fair isle portion and I then will sew the pieces together. Lesson learned: blocking is not magic.

Hi Roxanne thank you for your easy to follow instructions for everything that you do. I have a question: would you be willing to do a video showing some of the books on you shelf about knitting. Other designers do it but they usually are 'plugging' a new book thats just out. I know that you would not do that. I have tried reading the spines of your books, but cant really see them. I'm keen to know which ones you have found useful and even though you may not be able to get them new, thats ok.
@RoxanneRichardson

I did a series of Casual Friday segments showing the books in my library a number of years ago. I believe it was in the fall of season 2. So if you look at the videos starting around episode 40 or 42 of Season 2, you'll find a segment every week for about 6 or 7 weeks. The library has grown since then, but it'll give you a taste.

Thank you, Roxanne! This is very helpful and clearly illustrated. One question: when you have few stitches left after all the decreases, do you have to switch to double-pointed needles?

Question, when working with bulky or super bulky yarns, are there better suited cast ons, how best to manage the yarn, I the process of just knitting, wrapping the needle, seem to add twist that is more noticeable. I like the look of a chunky knit, and its quick, especially for gifts. But instead of easier, it seem yarn management is more challenging. Am i nuts? Too picky? There must be some secret tip or technique.

Very helpful. Question : if I am knitting very large to felt the hat after, can I still use this patter of decreases. My pattern using a bulky wool calls for multiple plain rounds between decreases.
@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson Год назад
Your hat may have a longer, more fitted method of shaping the crown, which will remain smooth when felted. This method is quite gathered, and may not be a great option for felting. Only way to know for sure would be to try it and see what happens.

@RoxanneRichardson
@RoxanneRichardson Год назад
Regardless of the stitch pattern you are using, once it's time to start the crown, you stop working the stitch pattern you have been using, and instead work the instructions exactly as I explained, using only knits and k2togs.
