Not only is this Guy a Legendary Pigeon Racer he also accomplished this without having to to break the bank see people in this sport Money is not the only currency you can use to make it to the Top, in some instances Time Patience and Ingenuity can be equally as valuable.

Excellent money saving tips, especially with the cost of shipping now. Anything you can make from local materials is gonna help. The feeders would be great for straight barley also...

Feeders are best for single type of grain. Also if you only fill them say less than half way there is less waste.

You know, when I asked about your feeding and watering receptacles the other day, I didn't expect you to come back with a homemade system that is actually commonly used for poultry. I guess I expected something much more elaborate! Now I'm like "Duh, why didn't you think of using what you already use for the chickens?!". Talk about me completely over-thinking it! LoL. Thanks for following up on my video request.

Hi Kerby, You gave me the idea and I keep it simple and the costs down. Very easy for me to replace a waterer or homemade feeder. I do like my wooden feeders which I show at the start of the video. A local fancier made these but I lost track of him a long time ago.

Hi Frank, would you recommend keeping grit and minerals in receptacles like this do they need freshening up too frequently in your experience?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
Hi Matt, It is best to use smaller containers for grits and minerals. They do need to be changed out regularly and tend to absorb moisture.

frank I have a pair that I imported from Holland 2 years ago and I have only been able to get 3 or 4 pigeons from them they always get up after around 2 weeks with eggs I don't know what happens to them and of those 3 or 4 pigeons one have 11 vs 35,000 pigeons in Mexico in 250 miles, what do you think Is the problem? Now I have them with light but this is the second time they get up after 2 weeks
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons 9 месяцев назад
I have heard of this happening. You should split the pair and I see which parent leaves the eggs. You can swap off the eggs to foster parents which might be the only solution. Could be genetics and the internal clock and hormones are telling on of the two birds they have sat 23 days when they only sat 14 days.

Stupid question, but I do this now and probably need to change things up- why not just pour daily food into the ground? Is there worry of dust/debris if they eat like that?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
My feeders sit on grates so wasted feed falls below the grates and the pigeons cannot eat this. My pigeons have strong immune systems but I do not want them to eat soiled feed.

System is ok for people that have no time to feed and take away daily . I would be worried about mice getting into the feeding utensils which if it happened would cause all sorts of issues with health and form of the pigeons .
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
It is a good policy to fight the mice with bait stations but with me only going to the lofts in the morning the feeders work well. I used to worry about mice until I read a study that mice do not pass salmonella onto pigeons. I hope that is true. I have not had any health problems using these feeders for many many years.
@kerbyjackson88
@kerbyjackson88 Год назад
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons That's true about the salmonella, but I do know that mice and rats are pretty big carriers of Coccidiosis. About twelve years ago, I wound up with that problem in one loft that was so old that the floor was going. Next thing I know, the young birds in that loft were dropping like flies. Then they were dropping in other lofts. I knew the floor was bad, but didn't think it was a real problem until I found chew marks on a plastic feed bin. Went out that night, opened the loft door and in addition to seeing mice, a couple rats took off like a shot. When I was a kid, we always had rats and mice because it was a good sized poultry farm surrounded by miles of fields. my late aunt was super diligent about always having us trap, shoot, etc. them weekly because she didn't want them around her dogs. She considered them MAJOR carriers of Coccidiosis and was pretty fearful of her dogs getting infected. Well, I remembered that and guess what, that's what the symptoms were on those young bird losses. I destroyed that loft with the bad floor, eradicated the rodents and bleached the place, but the Coccidiosis still persisted. It took a long time to fix that issue, but I finally saturated the place with a strong ammonia solution (including all loft floors, perches, walls rubber boots and even pathways). I despise medicating as much as you do, but I very reluctantly treated every bird on the place with liquid Corid to stop infected birds from spreading it back into the lofts, while continuing the ammonia. That stopped it dead in its tracks, but I'm pretty sure the culprit was the rodents getting into that one loft after feed.

I think pigeons will pick what they want to eat ( especially Safflower ) and throw grains + peas( white peas) they do not like .
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
They do waste some feed but with me not living at the lofts and only going to the lofts in the morning it works for me. The grate below the feeders really help.

@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Yes I understand that some fanciers have to hopper feed but imho it's not ideal to switch too for fanciers that do have time .
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
If fanciers have time and can feed the breeders multiple times a day that is great. For me, I am only at the lofts each morning so feeders are needed.

Is the second egg that a pigeon places the one with the better vitality and better to fly?
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons Год назад
If I had to pick an egg I would pick the first egg for being the better egg. The hens system is depleted slightly when she lays the second egg. She is depleted each round so you must have plenty of minerals and great nutrition.
@jcpigeons3510

@@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons In the one loft races the ones that have given me results have been the second eggs which a lot of them are females. Constantly I have gotten good results and better results that have been transmitted from females to females mothers to daughters. Which a lot have been the second egg.
