You should make sure to be consistent with the canvas size ratio before designing and when you want to save it. For example, if you use 1280:1280 (1:1) at the beginning, you should stick to that ratio when you want to save it. 1280:1280 becomes 3264:3264 (ultra quality), this remains at 1:1 ratio.
