You are a great teacher and it just took three words in order for me to get it the way you explain that that I couldn't get in over a hundred RU-vid channels
I was working on a scarf but ran out of yarn so I came here to learn how to make it into a cowl. So helpful, and much easier than expected! It's the first thing I've ever knitted, and this video showed me that it's not as hard as it may seem.
I have learn this 8 years ago and now I picked this back up it so relaxing to me. I love knitting and then I started crochet for a few years now, and crochet I have learn a lot more form crochet. now knitting I'm still a beginner in all. picking it back up it so relaxing to me.
Hi Jewel! I began with knitting and taught myself to crochet a few years later. I love both! (and having two reasons to buy yarn is pretty great too ;)
Glad it was helpful Lori! Just go slowly, I found when I was first starting it helped to ram the ends of the knitting needles into the cushions of the couch on either side of me to help keep them under control!
OH DEAR! I MAY ACTUALLY TRY THIS!!!! I am getting excited now! this will be the VERY FIRST EVER knitting project for me! I've been against it because of crocheting for so long....HOWEVER, I WILL DO THIS! thank you Jayda my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE teacher! you are opening my eyes and mind to knitting! it may work, it may not. however, I will try!!!! blessings from Toledo, OH!
Hi Tanya! A little patience and a few deep breaths LOL I love both knitting and crochet - you can get totally different looks with the same ball of yarn!!
Jayda, you've made this so easy for beginners so Thanks for that. I taught myself how to knit with just a knitting book, but I've never tried to make anything. I think I just might give this a go. I'd forgotten how to cast off, so this tutorial was great! Thanks again for your time and sharing with all of us around the world.💖🖒👏👏👏
Thank you for this easy to follow tutorial!! I just finished my very first knitting project an 'Easy Knit Cowl for Beginners'. I'm so excited! I plan to make some for gifts next!
Thanks, yet another lovely fun project. I'm coming along quit nicely with my knitting and Tunsian crochet (simple stitch), so I can actually make this thanks to you and others posting your tutorials.
Oh my goodness Jada! Thank you so very much!! I am going to make my very first knitted project using this tutorial. You are the best knitting teacher ever!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! I got to go buy myself some knitting needles. I am so excited to get started!! 😀
Hi Maria, you can use yarns for either hobby, but some do work better with one or the other. I find using really thick fluffy yarn is easier to crochet with (with a big hook and a big, spaced stitch pattern) easier than knitting with the same yarn. But a soft yarn like this one is fine with both.
Jayda InStitches oh my gravy I am still working on it it is just not a couple hours project for me I’m not a fascinator but I did post your video not your video but I did a video telling everybody to come over and check yours out😊🤗🧶
Super awesome and easy to follow tutorial! I didn’t see/hear how long the card is supposed to be though if anyone knows? I’m using a yarn cake so it’s more than one skein
yesssssssss ty jayda, finally mastered knitting after trying for a year. Will you be doing more knitting videos? I'm very interested in learning how to add different colors for striping or patterns? Also side question, could you go over different ways to cast on and tie off? I find that i have a very loose untied bit of yarn when i cast on that i struggle to find how to tie off and tuck in at the end..? if that makes sense. It doesn't seem as easy as with crochet where you can just weave in wherever however.
Hi Estefany! Glad to hear it :) Yes! Definitely going to do more knitting going forward, I love knitting as much as crochet :) So far we've got two different methods for casting on up and I'm going to do more, I'm familiar with at least 25 so far (wow!) and I agree with you, weaving in ends seems to be easier with crochet - however there are a few nifty methods for hiding it in knitting too....I'll take that as a suggestion for a tutorial! Great idea!
How long should this be before we join ends? I ran out of yarn and it’s too short. 🤦🏽♀️ I have a new skein to join. I prefer a Cowl to be a little more snug as opposed to draped.
Hi Jackie, it should be the same measurement as the circumference of your head or the head you're making it for. For a snugger fit, 2 cm or 1 inch shorter than the circumference measurement (it does have some stretch to it). 😊
Jayda I love your channel and I started knitting a garter stitch scarf and it's pink and I want it to be white and pink and i need help changing colors while knitting
Stardust1645's channel I'm sure Jayda will come up with a tutorial on this soon, but if you still need help, changing colors in knitting is fairly simple once you figure it out. Knit to the end of a row and cut your yarn, leaving a long tail. (I keep mine at least two inches long; you can weave it in later.) Tie the new color of yarn to the end of your tail closest to the knitting and begin knitting with the new color. Keep in mind that you will have one more row in your first color. Your new color will show up once you knit the second row in that color. Again, I'm sure you could find a tutorial on this if you need it, but I figured I'd try to help you out. Hope this made sense! Happy knitting! 😁
I'm going to try this. I'm an avid crocheter but I've always wanted to knit. You are such a wonderful teacher, I actually think I can make this! Thank you again for all you do... looking forward to more tutorials! BTW where do you get your yarn needles? I have large eye needles but sometimes they don't work very well depending on the project... yours seem to be a nice size but have that large attached eye.
Thank you Cleo, and Violetta is correct :) You can find that video on our tools over on our channel homepage (just click on my name to take you there!)
Hi Jayda! Thank you SO much for this super easy tutorial that was a breeze to follow! Great first project for any beginner and your Cast on method is so, so easy to do. I saw a gorgeous Crochet Cowl with a lovely long fringe at the end that looks super luxe. Could you do a Knit tutorial on a cowl like that. Thank you. BTW: You have a great smile and personality!
Hi Samantha, we have a crochet cowl pattern you might like to check out :) You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D3QpiQFY9-A.html
Love love love this method and what a beautiful cowl! I wish I would've only cast on 25 stitches instead of over 80. Having 25 keeps the cowl from bunching on the needle.
How much did it measure when you cast it off? I am using different yarn and you didn't say what yardage you used. I would appreciate an answer soon because I am knitting it now. Does anyone know the answer?
Hi Michelle, if circular needles are the only needles you have, you can use them as you would regular needles and NOT in the round. This pattern is not made in the round, it is made in 1 long strip, then joined, working short back and forth rows in the knit stitch.
Hi Dorothy, as long as it works out to be taller than your neck is, it will fit nicely as a cowl :) This cowl is approximately 11 inches (28 cm) tall :)
aleusha drake One easy scalloped stitch to look up is Feather and Fan. There are a lot of great tutorials here on RU-vid that could show you. Hopefully Jayda will also have a tutorial on that or another knitting scallop pattern soon! Hope this helps! Happy knitting! 😄
Hi Elaine, you might need to do a little experimenting, I recommend you begin with 20 cast on stitches and work a row, perhaps 2, then measure the width of your piece. With only 100 grams of a chunky yarn, you want to err on the side of your work being longer than wider. Ultimately you need it to wrap (comfortably) around your neck (if you have 2 skeins of that yarn, you'll be fine). A width no less than 20 cm (8 inches) and no more than 30 cm (12 inches) will suffice for this project. I hope that helped!
Ooooh, that looks really nice, I'm definately going to knit one of those :3 maybe i can buy the yarn tomorrow... don't let my boyfriend know, I just got 7 skeins of yarn today :D :D (I already have plans for them tho ^^)
Hi Kathy, the cowl, when both short edges are brought together, should fit comfortably over your head and around your neck. Not too long either, because you don't want it to hang to low and not protect your neck :)
Jayda InStitches thank you! I started one with the homespun. Different cast on amount but I’m seeing how it goes. I’m about two feet in so far and I’ve already had my daughter call dibs lol until I took her out and let her pick out her own color and my mother picked out a color so I’m keeping these new needles busy! Oh and not that it matters but I got my first ever pair of circular needles today 🙂 Oh and I’ve never knitted anything but a square so I’m excited lol
Hi Kathy, if you're using a really bulky yarn and possibly shorter needles, then you can try casting on only 20. Your cowl might be a bit less wide than the one I've made here, but it should be easier to work with :)
Hi Jose, the short answer is yes, but if you use a super chunky yarn like I did here, you might find that your stitches aren't as loose which could make knitting a bit stiff. If you use a thinner yarn to with your needles, you might do better to cast on 30 stitches to begin and then follow the pattern from there :)
not as pretty as this but l have managed to knit a small cowl neck warmer using odd bits of two different types of wool and size 4mm and 5 and half needles . only weight 65grms and cost me 50p
