One of my favourite aquarium plants, Staurogyne Repens.
This is a stem plant that can be used as a very low-tech, low maintenance carpet plant. I bought a small bunch of this, and since Iv planted it, its now grown into a lush carpet.

I am growing to love this plant, starts off a bit slow mainly due to transitioning. But then once it starts to grow its sends runners everywhere and thickens up nicely without growing tall especially with good light and co2.
@KieransFish
@KieransFish 5 лет назад
Yeah the fact that mine grew this well without fertiliser, without co2, and with standard sand substrate with nothing added really proves how well this plant can grow. It does take a few months but worth the wait, I’m actually starting to do it again from scratch..

When I bought a ton of tissue cultures before, in a tank with hard water and without CO2 this is the only thing that survive and thrived. I learned my lesson now to put CO2 but yes, this plant is very hardy. I would suggest to get rid of the blue light if you don't want these growing compact, more on red and white if you want this very bushy.
@Ballacha

Marsilea is still the ultimate low tech carpet. I swear you can physically see them getting taller lol. UG can also exhibit mad growth without CO2 but would require good lighting.
@KieransFish
@KieransFish 6 лет назад
Nice 😊 I’ll have to try that Marsilea, it looks good
@Ballacha
@Ballacha 6 лет назад
Kierans Fish keep in mind that marsilea can require quite a lot of maintenance due to its growth rate. You’ll have to constantly trim the random tall shoots to maintain an even looking carpet. It’s fun to play around with the carpet height with marsilea. You can practically grow a carpet that’s is 1/4 the height of your tank if you want to. I’ve seen people do this in a nano tank to maintain a shrimp population underneath and a betta above. Very interesting idea that guy had. UG is a bit better but you shouldn’t put it into any tank you plan on breeding fish/shrimp in. It belongs to the bladderwort family and all plants in this family are carnivorous. UG in particular can grow sticky traps on its vine-ish stem and capture tiny creatures. Those traps are far less sticky under water comparing to wild emersed UG but still, not 100% safe for shrimplets and fries.

Star grass is also easy and lush green looking. When it really gets going? Just scissor it down to 2"..it will ramify and grow tight. If doing that once a week or every other week sounds like a bother,then it's not for you. Uncut it will turn into just another stem plant..but cut low is like a lawn..Star "grass".

Hi Kieran, how many of these would you buy for 125ltr bed?
@KieransFish
@KieransFish 5 лет назад
As many as possible 😋 you can start off with very few but it would just take much longer, as you can snip the tops off and re-plant in the empty spaces

I didn’t use root tabs at first. I only added them because I could. I have led lighting and it’s quite bright. However it took a while for them to adapt and grow well.

They will kind of spread out horizontally if you keep snipping the tops off yeah, keep cutting them really short

How many Watts of the LED light? And the depth of the tank? Staurogyne Repens is a hardy plant that it even lives emersed with hardly any water. But it may rot under strong light.
@KieransFish
@KieransFish 6 лет назад
I just looked on amazon and I thinks it’s about 35W I don’t really go by the wattage. Iv had these repens for months now and they’re growing really well. I also have some growing emersed in plastic containers 😋 so good suggestion! I’ll be doing a video on growing them emersed see how well it works
