The dreaded red lily beetles are back - again!
Surely these are the most despicable parents ever - they wrap their young grubs in their own poo - as we see in this video
First we find a happy couple of red beetles , which I reluctantly put to an quick end using my foot. We then try a new (to me) form of red lily beetle control (#Grazers) which is sprayed over the leaves, to help protect the plant from the beetle attacks .. it is NOT a poison! so is supposed safe to use around animals and kids, but strengthens the plant against damage from the red pest.
This style of treatment requires a different mindset from 'old fashioned gardeners' like me who have been used to spraying a chemical and expecting it to instantly stop any more pests for a few weeks or more .. this organic control requires patience and persistence as we 'work with nature' rather than 'obliterate nature'!
This is my first time using this product .. so time will tell .. watch this space!
