Honestly any manufacturer that does granulating colours should be paying you a commission. I’ve watched lots of artists swatching on youtube and not a single one of them gets close to bringing out the beauty of the pigment the way you do. Your version of the paint has 100% more glamour 😊

Gorgeous! I absolutely love your pebble paintings! It’s so interesting to see you create them, with some excellent tips along the way too! I was very pleased to see a lucky Hag Stone in there as well! Apparently only good luck & positive thoughts can pass through a Hag Stone, as bad luck and negative thoughts are larger, so they get stuck in the hole! They are also believed to ward off witches, and other rascals with ill intent, so I wonder if they’d work for trolls too? 😂🧌 Hag Stones have been found in ancient British burial mounds, and are still exchanged between friends to this day. This is an old British custom, but I wonder if there are any other similar beliefs in other parts of the world about stones with a hole in them? I’d love to know! Thank you for another quality video Natasha! 🤗💖😘 xxx

@@NatashaNewtonArt I’ve only just scratched the surface of all there is to know about Hag Stones! There are so many beliefs tied up with them, sometimes literally! There do seem to be some differing schools of thought though; one thinks you have to be given them, another thinks you have to find them, but my favourite is that it’s more a case of the stones finding you! 😯😁💖😘 xxx

That’s really nice. I came across this tutorial just in time, because I already was planning on painting a particular stone soon. We re-did our front garden and I found a beautiful brown/reddish stone with white lines that I want to try to paint with watercolor. But I think I want to paint just that one particular, and a bit larger, and when it turned out nice, frame it.

So happy you shared this with us,pebble swatching/painting is the way to go,this was also a bit of an ASMR video too!. I deciced to paint along side you ths time, I didn't use earth tones,but did use five dark versions of colours I use a lot in my own work. and in place of white for the detail/veining I used my beloved metallics. I love how when you lift off some of the colour it creates a natural highlight but also helps create the form of the pebble,giving it more substance and realism too. And adding the lines also can help create the form too.. I love the Betty Hayways brushes too,they are a really versatile brush and the prolene brushes are a staple for me too. This was a really mindful thing to do as well. I may try other colours and see if I can create more crystal like forms. It sounds like you've begaun a new trend too,with other's pebble painting and swatching,you are a creative influencer!!. It's also a way to really use your brushes too to help create the forms of the pebbles by using diffrent strokes preasures too.. I love how these painted pebbles sort of echo the actual pebbles you paint on as well. A lovely gift of a video for sure. (matt)
@NatashaNewtonArt
@NatashaNewtonArt 2 года назад
I love your idea of using metallics for the lines, Matt! I'm going to give this a go in my next piece, if you don't mind! I can imagine it looks very effective on the dark pebbles. Thank you! (I will credit you with the initial idea if I share them online).

@@NatashaNewtonArt I used dark blues,purples.,reds etc as the colours of my pebbles then used either gold or silver or copper for the lines. I hope you do try this,it does look lovely against the dark colours and I think the metallics would look over your granulating colours too. I will photograpgh my pebbles and tag you on instagram. I loved this video,thank you for sharing it with us.(matt)

Hi Michelle! I'm sorry that you have issues with your arms, that must be very difficult, and frustrating too. The paper I used in this video was the Aquarella paper from Choosing Keeping in London, but I often use a cold pressed (sometimes called a 'NOT' surface) paper such as Bockingford (cheaper!) or 640gsm Canson Heritage and Fabriano Artistico (more expensive!).
